Maryse Interview: TLC, The Rock, Career Ambitions, more
12/12/2009

Former Divas Champion Maryse recently sat down with SLAM! Wrestling to answer several fan questions. Here are some of the highlights:

On tomorrow's TLC PPV: -
I would say it will be a pretty hardcore pay-per-view. It reminds me a little bit of ECW, what they were doing a little while ago.

On Sheamus: -
Sheamus is really different. He’s got a really unique look. He’s so white, and with his red hair and beard, it’s so weird! John Cena is pretty white, but he looks really tanned compared to Sheamus. I like his charisma in the ring, his aggressive style, and he’s got a great bad guy personality.

On becoming the Gobbledy Gooker: -
They sent me pictures over e-mail to help me prepare myself. When I saw the costume, I was like ‘Oh boy.’ That night, wearing the costume, I was walking out of the curtain and up the ramp, and I couldn’t see out of the costume. The eyes are white, and with the strobes, it just reflected inside the head. I was totally blind.

I was trying to get to the ring as fast as I could, and I was so worried that I would just fall down the stage or down the ramp on my way to the ring. My heart was racing, I was freaking out. Especially when there’s 20,000 people looking at you, and the cameras are on you and it’s live TV. At some point, I was almost tempted to lift the head off so I could see, but it had to be a secret that it was me underneath, so I couldn’t. What we have to do for the show, right?

On her recent injuries: -
I had dislocated kneecap, and had torn ligaments. It wasn’t really painful, just annoying -- the swelling in my leg just wouldn’t go down. So I decided to go get it fixed.

On her job: -
There’s nothing like performing in front of a crowd of 10,000 or 20,000, or 100,000 like at a Wrestlemania. I think modelling is boring. You can walk a runway, but that’s nothing like walking down a WWE ramp where the fans are ecstatic and they’re screaming so loud. I love it.

On her inspirations: -
The Rock. Even though I’m a girl, I look at him as an inspiration. He was just amazing. He had a lot of range in his character, he had the crowd reacting every night no matter what he was doing. It’s really hard to do, and he did it really well.

On her future goals as a WWE Diva: -
If you were to ask me five years ago where I would be now, I wouldn’t have known. When I look back and think about everything I’ve done in the past few years, I can’t even remember everything. So, where I will be in even six months? That’s a big question. What I can say is that no matter what I’m doing, I’ll be doing something that I like. As long as I’m happy, and I enjoy doing what I’m doing, I’ll keep going.

The Real Diva of the Year: Vickie Guerrero
12/16/2009

With the fans voting for Diva of the Year, it's logical to assume that Mickie James would pick up the win. Knowing the WWE, they'll give it to someone they want to push or who's in the middle of a feud for bragging purposes.

But if people were to really think about which woman in the WWE truly made an impact and embodied the word Diva, the answer is Vickie Guerrero.

I've read a lot of people are giving the win to Michelle McCool. She's a logical choice. She is the first woman to have won both the Women's and Divas Champion titles. But was it a big deal? Did anything come of it?

She beat Melina in a solid match to win the belt, defended it against her once in a PPV and another time on SD, and that was it until this recent PPV when she was challenged by Mickie James. For me personally, it seems that the top face Diva on Smackdown is featured much more prominently every week as opposed to the actual champion.

Personally, I'd put Melina over her on my list. Melina came back from a nasty injury and literally set a fire through the Divas division. She started out the year beating Beth Phoenix and winning the Women's title. She carried that over to Smackdown where she became the top face Diva and really set a better standard in the quality of her matches.

She even went right back to Raw and became Divas Champion, which she still is to this day. I think she's done more than McCool in terms of being an impact on the division and for fans.

But neither of these women hold a candle to Vickie Guerrero. No other Divas this year has gotten more heat from a crowd or ruled with an iron fist like her. She managed to be a part of a fantastic storyline with Edge and used being a Diva and running SD to her complete advantage.

All she has to say is two words and she's got the crowd eating out of her hands. She's even been brought back and looks to be being set up to take back her old role, which I'd enjoy.

Who had a better year or more impactful year than Vickie Guerrero?

Backstage News on Mickie James/WWE Conflicts

PWPix.net reports... As seen Monday night on Raw, WWE continued directing thinly veiled personal shots towards Mickie James as Matt Striker uttered disparaging remarks regarding her appearance while on commentary.

While commenting on the Divas' evening gowns, he said, "Well, I know Kelly Kelly is wearing Vera Wang. I believe Maria might be wearing Gloria Vanderbilt. Mickie James is of course wearing T.J. Maxx." A few moments later, he followed up his initial comment with the following, "Think Mickie's wearing Lane Bryant?"

The belief among wrestlers is that James, who has had her weight mocked in recent weeks, will part ways with the company once her contract expires so she can fully pursue a career in country music.

While news of Mickie leaving WWE to pursue a career in music has not yet been confirmed, many in the company believe that to be the case. Hence, WWE is treating the popular SmackDown Diva poorly on television as a "send-off" of sorts as that's their way of dealing with the matter.

Rajah.com reports... The WWE website caught up with two-time Women's Champion Ivory in their latest "Where Are They Now?" piece. In the first part of this two-part feature, Ivory discusses her early days in the wrestling industry as a member of the all-women's promotion, Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling (G.L.O.W.).

"It's so hard to watch the footage because we were all so lame at what we did," Ivory recalled. "We didn’t have any trainers. We pretty much figured it all out by watching men’s wrestling

"We didn't have anybody in Vegas. We just had videos and ring time — on a boxing mat mind you, not even a wrestling ring. The thing was stiffer than stiff, like wrestling in your living room or on plywood."

"We were all really young and had a lot of creative freedom, which was really cool. It was like it was our show," she explained of G.L.O.W.. "Let's do this outright, put our costumes on, and really get this thing sold, bring people in."

Mickie James discusses food, height, weight, more
12/19/2009
PWPix.net reports... When asked to name her cereal and restaurant of choice, Mickie James listed Cocoa Pebbles and Honey Comb as her two favorite cereals, with Arby's as her preferred restaurant.

"I love cereal... But I'm more of a organic girl all the way. Cocoa pebbles and honey comb were my favs," the WWE Diva said on Twitter. "And this one, Arby's."

For those unaware, Arby's is a Georgia based restaurant primarily known for selling roast beef sandwiches and curly fries. The biggest Arby's restaurant in the world can be found in ironically enough, James' hometown of Richmond, Virginia.

In other James trivia, she revealed her legitimate height and weight this past week on the social networking site. While World Wrestling Entertainment bills the SmackDown Diva as 5'4" and 121 pounds, she is actually 5'2" and 130 pounds.

Knockout set to leave TNA
12/19/2009
PWInsider.com reports... TNA backstage interviewer Lauren Brooks announced today via her twitter account that she would be leaving the company shortly. Brooks wrote, "Truly going to miss the wrestling fans and my fam @ TNA, but time to focus on my 2 Golf Channel Shows! Keep a lookout!"

I'm told Brooks is leaving the company to focus on other projects and her impending marriage. She was really good at getting over the segments she was involved in. The recently retired Christy Hemme will slide into Brooks' former role.

TNA Knockout announces her retirement
12/19/2009
PWInsider.com reports... TNA Knockout Christy Hemme, who won the first-ever WWE Diva Search competition, announced last night during a podcast for her official podcast, the RHS that she was officially retired from in-ring competition, but would be remaining affiliated with TNA.

Hemme explained that she found herself tense and nervous about the possibilities of re-injuring her neck during a six-Knockouts tag match several weeks back, concerned that she didn't want to have spent eight months allowing a neck injury to heal naturally only to suffer it again.

Hemme noted that the day after that bout, she informed TNA that she wasn't going to continue wrestling. She noted that she feels healthy and fine, but didn't want to put herself into a situation where her long term quality of life would be an issue.

Hemme broke into the business in 2004, winning a contract via the inaugural WWE Diva Search. She posed for Playboy Magazine a year later. She debuted in TNA after being released by WWE and has remained with the company since.

Christy Hemme got engaged to her boyfriend Charley Paterson for Christmas:

by Christy Hemme

After 2 attempts to propose to me on a plane (the way we met) that I changed my flight unknowingly, third time was the charm with the most romantic proposal ever! We flew all day from Orlando to Oregon to stay in a cabin with his family for Christmas and when we arrived he gathered his entire family around the tree for a toast. Telling me that it was important to share asking me to share our lives together forever with his family, it was also important to have my family as well. They popped their shinny little faces out of the loft above us, he got down on his knee and asked me to marry him!! I said yes of course!!! We laughed, we cried, we kissed, we hugged and then I played him a song I wrote for him knowing that this day would come... We knew from day one that we would spend the rest of our lives together. He inspires me everyday and is bar none the most beautiful part of my life that I get the privilege of enjoying every single day I breathe. I love you Charley, you light up my life.
