Most useful for me is,"Um hum." You can say it with your mouth closed or with food in it. Gets you to a point when you can think of something to say that you can walk away from a conversation.

Yes it's a fail for google :partysml: I had to resort to one of those old fashioned book thingies - 'Oxford English Dictonary' It's a type of architectural decoration I think, but I can't find an example of it anywhere! I heard it whilst listening to someone describing climbing the inside of St Pauls cathedral as you do on your days off!

I only have a pocket OED, and it's not in there either. It is an interesting word - on research I have found it related to clocks and roofs. I get the feeling that it is some sort of intricate decoration.
