Yes. And sadly the author took a raw deal choice because he didn't think the game would go anywhere so he settled for a lump sum as oppose to future royalties or something.
Big time suckfest. He tried to sue if I remember right but I didnt keep up with that.
On one hand I can see how it might be sucky for him. On the other it's not like he was ripped off. When the deal was made he probably received what was probably close to market value for the permission to use the IP. It was much more CD Projekt that made The Witcher IP as popular as it is now than what he did. I would think he should thank the company for exposing and popularizing to the world to what he created, and if he was really that confident in his creation he should of bet on himself and what he created and asked for a percentage off the earnings made from it. It's kind of unfair for him to go back with hindsight and complain that CD Projekt got the better end of the deal. I'm sure if they tanked making the games or the setting of The Witcher just never got popular he would not have returned that up front money he got when no money was made off of it.
