Windows 7 features...

Linux really? At least go to MAC
Why? Some people have been using Linux since the '90s as their desktop.

Linux is about community software, instead of commercial marketing and control. Sure, you can't go down to the local Best Buy and pick up just anything and assume it works, but most of that stuff is designed not to work with the previous Windows version or the next (sometimes not even new revisions of the same version). Meanwhile once a Linux driver is written, or a file format standardized, it works perpetually. It's because of this fact that many hardware and software vendors want nothing to do with Linux, and that's why they partner with Microsoft, who controls retail and OEM distribution.

Microsoft IE and Office have been the biggest killer of corporate IP, and Microsoft cannot even maintain proprietary standards for more than a few years (far, far worse than other proprietary software, which is at least completely backward compatible with their own formats). That's why most people switched to OpenOffice's OASIS standardized XML format years ago, and especially after ODF became an ISO standard. Microsoft still hasn't released a version of Office with their ISO standard, and that standard is under review because of how it was passed (long story). Virtually everyone is tired of the lip-service Microsoft pays to file longevity and any form of standards.

So understand that Windows 7 is pure marketing. It is NT 6.1, Vista being NT 6.0, and little has changed. It still has the same hardware requirements. Microsoft has just played with some pricing/version games. The "XP Mode" (NT 5.1) doesn't run XP games at all (it's just XP under their virtualization) and it only comes with the Ultimate versions and select Business releases. Again, the "XP Mode" does not run XP games. It is designed for business software that will not run under NT 6 (Vista/7) but only NT 5.1 (XP).

There is nothing wrong with Linux. I plan to use XP until it is obsolete and then switch to Linux. I already have Linux on another older computer I have in a dual boot setup with Windows 98 (mostly to play older games).

I'll stick with Vista. Unlike everyone in the world I have never had a problem with it.

Yeah I will be sticking with Vista. I too have never had a problem with it. Though no doubt now I've told you that, it will f**k up? :1orglaugh

"Two years"??? Multiply that several fold by Service Pack downloads LOL. ;)

Is this really a bad thing though? You are getting free updates and you have to spend maximum 20 minutes downloading them. And all to make yourmachine operate more smoothly! I think they are great:2 cents:

^^Agreed. My OP (rather flippant) was in response to waiting "two years" to install Win7. We might see the disappearance of MS by then :1orglaugh
