Not at this rate. Besides, to me there will always be a * next to his name.

I dont think so...maybe Albert Pujols will

As I said earlier Puljos looks like he has a great shot he just hit his 22nd homerun of the year today and it looks like he has a shot of getting to at least 60 this year and a shot of breaking Bonds 73hr record which would be great for baseball hoping and it looks like Puljos is steriod free....

Puljos already has 223 career Hr and is only 26

I agree Pujols is unbelievable but as far as I am concerned, Roger Maris holds the single-season HR record at 61. Bonds....McGwire....Sosa.....all on the juice and they should be declared null and void.

Just my :2 cents:

Its interesting since the Balco/Grand Jury hearings Sosa has disappered and nobody will sign him, Palmerio is gone, and Bonds numbers has fallen....maybe there was something in the juice...

Actually it is hard to tell because all of them are at the age where you would expect them to decline like they have. What happened to Sosa isn't surprising at all and is almost expected. The only thing that was weird about them was the fact Bonds was able to last and get better at such an old age for an athlete.

I heard about #714, but did not watch the highlights to see the home run. I think that is the general view of Bonds and his homers: Aware of the events, but really don't care what Bonds does this year or next.

I'd like to see him retire, sooner than later.

:2 cents:

Yeah, but nobody really knows how old Sosa really is anyway. And Sosa probably bought his roids from the same guy that sold him that corked bat. That's why he, as Mike Tyson would say, faded into bolivion. And I feel dirty menioning Bonds and Sosa in the same post. Sosa was really a one trick pony.

But yeah, if Bonds stays healthy, and isn't kicked out of baseball, or in jail because of tax evasion, sadly, I think he will be able to do it. The guy is a freak. Too bad he couldn't use his powers to thrill and inspire. :crying:

Sadly he will break Hammerin Hank's record which kinda sucks. I am however glad that Barry will never see a world series championship ring

Myself I just figure that when it comes to records in sports and such that there is never a need for an asterisk. They shouldn't have put it there in the past and shouldn't now. People just have to keep in mind that everything a person does in sports is due to three things in varying degrees.

1. The person's skill at what he does
2. The conditions under which he played in
3. Luck

As long as people keep those in mind they should be able to make up their mind about how important a number is relative to other things that happened, but a number is what it is and it happened. If people are not carefull everytime one of the above things are off compared to where people think they should be they will put an asterisk next to it and soon everything will have one.

Exactly. I don't think there is a need to put in asterisks either. There is no asterisk by Gaylord Perry's name, even after he admitted to throwing the spitball and shit.
But really, I'm not a big Hall of Fame guy or records guy. But I honestly got to say that sometimes I can't help but drool over Pete Rose's numbers or my boy Greg Maddux's too. (I just don't know how he does it.)
But if Bonds breaks the record, sobeit. A jerk that breaks a record, is still a jerk.

Ha, did you hear that during the home run the SF radio announcer's mike just suddenly shut off!! Hmmmmm sounds like some supernatural foul play going on here. To me it's the Babe saying " Fuck you fraud, now no one can hear the call of you breaking my record." Ha ha, I love it.

LOL no I didn't hear that. That's awesome though.

They just played the replay on the Dan Patrick show. It's so odd that it went out, but soo funny.
