Why men today don't read...

Squall, You want to read good books? Read The Silmarillion, The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings.

The Silmarillion tells the tale of the history of Middle Earth. It's my favourite book.

What do you mean?

It's a prequel. Read the others first.

BTW...while I haven't read The Silmarillion myself, everyone I know who has says it's boring as fuck.

Then they don't know a good book when it's being slammed in their faces.

It is an incredibly dense book. If you don't like reading history, you won't like this book. The stories in it are thrilling and epic, but they are buried under a wealth. Tolkien created a complete world with The Hobbitt and The Lord of the Rings. This book explains how that world came about. It has semantic history, history of the races' eschatology, geographic development, etc.. I think Tolkien felt compelled to create this book in order to tidy up the Middle Earth.

Tolkien had an amazing mind. Can you imagine creating an entire world that millions of readers will get lost in for decades and decades to come?

No.

I'd rather read REAL history than goblins & dragons etc etc :dunno:

The average adult of either gender has the reading skills of a mattress. Don't believe me? Listen to someone reading from a book.
