The Wii and the Cube are rigs created mostly for those average joe's not keen in hardcore gaming. How do you think the Wii is selling like it is, it's not because gamers are interested in it, most of them are not. If it was just down to gamers the Wii would be sitting in third place like the N64 and the Cube did. Even with the games they had that some class as being good.
Nintendo stated that if the likes of Mario Zelda and Resident Evil 4 can't sell the machine [Cube] then nothing will. And look what happened to the Cube, shops near where I live stopped selling the console due to poor demand for the games and the hardware. So Ningaydo then threaten Dixons [one of the shops in question] by banning the company from selling any more of their products if they refuse to sell the Cube and it's software. That never worked as Dixons and a few others stopped stocking Nintendo products from the last Gen of gaming. If I'd not read that somewhere I'd never have known as I don't care enough for the company.
One or two so-called mature titles on a Nintendo console isn't enough for me to fork out good money for the console. I bought the N64 and the Cube and those two times I never got my money's worth from the purchases. Less than ten games on each platform I had. It wont happen a third time with the Wii. No way.
Someone once put it that the Wii is on it's way to be THE most successful console of all time with the sales it's making, the most successful console of all time with the shittest game selection of all time.
And even some gamers into hardcore gaming might feel the need for the Cube or Wii from time to time. But this is only to relax, take a break as it were from the norm. An hour here and an hour there on it, and then back to business, on the consoles that mean something.
Someone I know once said that the Playstation 3 isn't a games console due to what it can do. It is a games console so it is. It's that and a whole lot more. It's the Wii that isn't a true games console, as it isn't being bought en mass by gamers, but by people on the street that have never played a game in their lives or those that used to play them as a kid many moons ago. And also by those that think they have the latest gadget that has been hyped by the media. This is why it sells. It's not selling by the truck load in gamesville.
