Why is Canadian money, not acctepcted is the USA??

Try paying anything over $10 using USA change only, a lot of stores say they wont accept it, unless you throw a fit then they will.
There was a time, about a dozen years ago, when the American dollar was SO much more valuable than the Canadian dollar. A bed and breakfast owner in the Maritimes had a great deal - come for breakfast, pay with an American 10$ bill, get a Canadian 10$ bill as change. The dollar was about .64 cents at the time, so the guy got around $4.60 cents for a breakfast he usually charged 4$ for. Pretty clever marketing.
Of course, with the Canadian dollar at about par, that would not be a wise move now...

Funny man, that just happened this weekend, went down to mexico, had breakfast, couple blow jobs, some coke, overnight stay and 2x 19 year old for 3 week loan, gave the guy $10 and got 10 peso back.

what about change? i see american change mixed in with canadian change all the time
because in canada we take american money, so it just seems fair
it would be very easy for an american to figure out if someone was paying with canadian money, its not like there is no distinguishing things on it

i am actually not sure weather we accept those forms of currency in canada, i dont see why not, cause we could just do the exchange rate, but we probs dont

It really isn't about being selfish or ignorant. She was smart not to accept a foreign currency without a manager's approval. I mean, it wasn't legal currency. And it's not as simple as just converting the funds to the local currency. The conversion rate that you read in the paper or on the internet is not the conversion rate that banks universally use. The conversion rate is based on the size of the transaction and the time of the transaction. A one million dollar plus transaction will get a better conversion rate and lower fees than a ten dollar transaction. What you see in the paper or on an internet site is just a base or reference rate. And different banks use different conversion rates and charge different fees. When a store deposits foreign currency into a local bank, the money has to then be converted to the local, legal currency. And in addition to using their own conversion rates, banks also charge fees for that. When I came back from Montreal several years ago, Bank of America offered a less than ideal conversion rate and charged a $7.50 per $1,000 fee for the foreign currency deposited, as best I can recall - I could be misremembering the specific amounts... I just remember not being happy with what I got. Even if they'll do it at the counter, that's one reason why local merchants usually give foreign shoppers substantially less than what the shoppers think their currency is worth - they have to protect themselves against all these unknowns.

It may have been about that time or a little earlier me and a buddy were helping to open the track at Batavia NY. We came up with the wives and he said let's hit the Niagara casino in Canada. We get to the joint and he says "Valet". I'm thinking save a few bucks and park the car myself. He says,"No. Valet trust me." $5 to valet park, $15 to self park. I shit you not.
We get into the casino and Canadian dollars cost 60 cents US. $200 gets me $330 or so. Large sandwich with sides and drinks in a casino pub with a band comes to less than $8 USD. Walk around town and it is party city. Everyboby had a drink in their hand. What a great fucking night. Oh,Canada!

The easiest answer is that getting it converted into dollars is just a pain in the ass. :2 cents:
That's especially so if it's a small amount. Nobody wants to bother with figuring out the current exchange rate either, or what the extra cost would be at some financial institution to get it done.
Think about things in your own life. If there is something that is a pain for you to do, you don't have to do it, it's not important you do it, it cost more, and it's vary rare anybody even wants you to, how often are you willing to do it?

I never said your currency is dollars, I said you should be asking why Canadian merchants accept a foreign currency, not why American merchants choose not to.
Canadian businesses accept US dollars because there are 300 million Americans that use US money and a lot of them visit Canada.
American businesses don't accept Canadian dollars because there are only 25 million Canadians, and not a lot of Canadians visit the US.
If 10% of the US visited Canada in a given year, it's more than your whole country's population.
If 100% of Canada visited the US in a given year, it's half the population of California.
When Canadians start coming to the US in such large numbers that their currency becomes prevalent, you'll see merchants accepting it.
Until then, you're out of luck. It's not about ignorance (Where the fuck do you get that?), and US businesses want to make money, but declining the 1 time a year that some guy offers him a loony....that's not gonna bankrupt a US business.
