ignorant and selfish,
There you go. Anyway we do a lot of stupid things concerning currency.

I was recently in the USA and I ran out of American money, so I tried to pay with Canadian money and the clerk at the store threw it back on the counter at me and said we dont accept Canadian money
How can Americans be So ignorant and selfish, to not accept Canadian money, we accept American currency up north
There was a time, about a dozen years ago, when the American dollar was SO much more valuable than the Canadian dollar. A bed and breakfast owner in the Maritimes had a great deal - come for breakfast, pay with an American 10$ bill, get a Canadian 10$ bill as change. The dollar was about .64 cents at the time, so the guy got around $4.60 cents for a breakfast he usually charged 4$ for. Pretty clever marketing.
Of course, with the Canadian dollar at about par, that would not be a wise move now...
Most have trouble giving back the right amount of change after you pay.
a business can accept whatever form of payment that they want. It's not like the US goverment tells businesses what currency they can and can't take. If a business doesn't want Canadian money, they don't have to take it.
It's rare to see Canadian money in the US. That business owner would have to spend more time converting your few Canadian dollars into US than it is probably worth to him.
IEven though most countries don't take US money, I don't assume they will, and I don't get pissy if they don't. Canada? No offense, but why the fuck should a US business be expected to take Canadian money?
Part of it is laziness as far as having to convert the currency. The other is depending on where you are, most have not seen Canadian currency. This would make it easier for someone to counterfeit.
The other part I ponder is there a charge for businesses from the banks to convert the currency when you deposit? If I was a betting man, I would think there is.
Because Monopoly money is not legal tender. :hatsoff:
The actual answer to your question, brod, is that the U.S. Dollar is the world reserve currency. Some people think that's about to change, but that's a whole other topic.
I think you may have answered your own query.
Because you're ugly.
Because we're a sovereign country, the same reason why we don't accept Pesos from Mexico, British Pound or Japanese Yen.
Your question should be: why does Canada accept dollars?
ignorant and selfish,

Try paying anything over $10 using USA change only, a lot of stores say they wont accept it, unless you throw a fit then they will.
Because you wear a helmet with Reynolds Wrap on it...thats why.
don't worry about it, anyways. sooner or later we'll all be using chinese money.
on the back of american currency, in fine print, it says, MADE IN CHINA
the same thing is printed on the bottom of every new-borns left foot
Brodkill, you give us too much credit.it would be very easy for an american to figure out if someone was paying with canadian money, its not like there is no distinguishing things on it
