Why do the British have bad teeth?

I dated this very sexy cute girl when I was assigned to London years ago. She was a sales rep for HP and she was smart, but her looks had a bit to do with her success.

She took great care of herself, but her teeth were definitely not up to US standards. A few were a little crooked and not as white as we like here.

Great girl and still sexy, but helped the stereotype.

There are worse things to worry about.

American aggrandizement -- it's well known: white teeth configured straight - and of course 'I must talk to my psychotherapist about {insert here } :D ;)

^neither of which pertain to the Brits /:1orglaugh;) :yahoo:

The only two British people that I can think of with bad teeth are Amy Winehouse and Austin Powers; however, one's dead to me and the other's a character.

Now if only Amy Winehouse wasn't around, they'd both be dead to me.

It's generally a stereotype, but many a times you get bad teeth because of the water you consume.Water with high fluoride content takes a toll upon the teeth enamel. So, regions where people drink ground water with high fluoride content, they get the teeth colored with a brownish coat and enamel rips off completely.

They dont have bad teeth. Its just another stereotype americans created to make themselves feel superior. In fact in a poll they ranked better than the US for overall dental care. Universal Health insurance ftw.

British don't have better or worse teeth then any other nationality in the world. Go and have a look in Asia, and be surprised about their teeth.
Anyway, at least, in Europe, we have natural teeth, not whitened as in the US. Dentists in Europe say it's very bad for your teeth to whiten them. So it's not done here. That probably why American people think British teeth look bad, while they just look natural.

I actually think that either human teeth have a design flaw or are not suited to our lifestyles. They last nowhere near long enough and it seems you're lucky if you get 30 years good use out of them, then again nature didn't account for all the sugars and acids we'd be putting into our mouths. Wouldn't it be great if a tooth came out that another one grew in it's place a bit like what happens with milk teeth.
