Who's On Your Mt. Rushmore?

Pick a sport and choose the 4 greatest players that would be chiseled onto its "Mt. Rushmore".

Since it's time for the NHL playoffs, I'll start with hockey:

Wayne Gretzky
Gordie Howe
Mario Lemieux
Bobby Orr

I thought about including a goaltender (Plante, Roy or Brodeur?) but couldn't find room for one. Jake the Snake comes close. Did Orr play long enough to qualify??

Discuss, agree/disagree or pick a different sport.

NBA

Michael Jordan
Wilt Chamberlain
Larry Bird
Magic Johnson

Crap, I need another mountain for Lebron and Kobe.

Oscar Robertson? Jerry West? Kareem? Olajuwon? Hard to argue with your choices though! Lebron and Kobe are still playing so I guess they wouldn't officially count....yet. Should have made it clear they need to be retired.

Joe Montana
Michael Jordan
Wayne Gretzky
Pete Rose

Interesting. Jordan & Gretzky I agree (if you're picking the greatest in each sport). Montana? Don't think so. Maybe Jerry Rice, Jim Brown, Lawrence Taylor or Reggie White. I'd take Marino or Favre over Montana as a QB if you're speaking strictly about statistical performance. Maybe even Johnny U. And no way is Pete Rose there for baseball. If it ain't Babe Ruth, it ain't nobody.

Pro Wrestling (well, it's sport to me)

Ric Flair (the greatest champion)
Hulk Hogan (the greatest draw and superstar)
Shawn Michaels (the greatest performer)
Steve Austin (the greatest all-rounder)

How far back you go would affect this as far as I am concerned. "Gorgeous" George, Strangler Lewis have to be in the discussion from my perspective.

Women's Curling

Colleen Jones
Jen Jones
Anette Norberg
Sandra Schmirler

Obscure enough for you?

Uhhh....yes. :D

Go back as far as you like or as far afield as you like. I'm happy with my choices. In an ideal world I'd have found a place for Kobashi, but if I can only have four, they're my four.

Hey, it's your list so I'm good with it. Depends on one's exposure to it when young I suppose.

Soccer
Pele
Johan Cruyff
Franz Beckenbauer
Michel Platini
(No Maradona, a drug-addict doesn't belong to the Mount Rushmore)

Formula 1
Juan-Manuel Fangio
Alain Prost
Ayrton Senna
Michael Schumacher

Rugby
Gareth Edwards
Serge Blanco
Jonah Lomu
Johnny Wilkinson

I'm going to go with people that I have seen play, so some old timers (to me anyways) won't make the list.

Hockey:

Gordy Howe(I didn't really see him in his prime but I did see him play)
Wayne Gretzky
Mario Lemieux
Steve Yzerman(he was a scorer as a kid but turned into a great two way center)

NFL:

Walter Payton
Lawrence Taylor
John Elway
Randy White(I could have went with Joe Greene but I had to get one Cowboy in there)

Baseball:

Tony Gwynn
Wade Boggs(giant douche but you can't argue with the numbers)
Reggie Jackson(see above)
Jack Morris(how the hell is he not in the Hall Of Fame?)

Golf:
Jack Nicklaus
Bobby Jones
Tiger Woods
Arnold Palmer

Basketball:
Michael Jordan
Wilt Chamberlain
Magic Johson
Elgin Baylor

Baseball:
Babe Ruth
Sandy Koufax

#3 and #4 could be flipped with no argument by me. They're 1-1 head to head and Creed did teach Balboa the eye of the tiger.

L3ggy

Special Operations FOX-HOUND
Football

Ronaldo
Peter Schmeichel
Ryan Giggs
Henrik Larsson
