Alfred Wallace thought of the exact same thing, it was because Wallace was going to publish his work that Darwin published his.

And I'm going to vote for Darwin, though if there was a beard contest between the two...

As the story goes Darwin had written his paper but he held off from publishing it because his wife was quite religious and he didnt want to offend her and any other religious person he knew. But as soon as he heard of somone else with the same theory he panicked and when he and Wallace discussed it Wallace was gracious enough to allow Darwin to publish first.

I didn't know they were born on the same day.

I would go with Lincoln. Darwin was ahead of his time, but the type of work he did would have inevitably come about sooner or later and probably sooner. Without Lincoln the world and especially the US, might be a very different place now.

As an American, I proudly vote for Lincoln. I didn't know they were born on the same date. Would our British Freeones Friends vote Darwin over their King (Edward?) of the time?

Technically the King at the time would have been George III (I'm sure you've all heard of him) he was King when we beat the French in the Napoleonic wars but lost the America's he was supposed to be mad :dunno:.

Being King during the time when Great Britain beat France and Napoleon gives him major plus points but no I wouldn not take him over Darwin, some may argue that his work may have been found eventually if he hadnt published. But that doesnt take away from his remarkable achievement, his book when it came out was a bestseller and we are still talking and debating his ideas today.

For me personally, Lincoln would be my choice but it is an extremely difficult decision since both he and Darwin had made (and continue to make) such a HUGE contribution toward each one's individual field of endeavor. A strong case could be made for either choice. Obviously, as an American, Lincoln's direct impact would be limited geographically and so it doesn't surprise me that Darwin is the poll leader, but Lincoln is it for me.

Eureka! The missing link! This thread and those populating it! Oops! Wrong again. The link is still missing and always will be. The link doesn't exist. Show me the empirical evidence that it does.

Darwinism is just another faith based system of belief. A religion with fanatical whackos for its adherents.

What's the difference between a so-called religious zealot and a Darwinist? Just which side of the same coin they reside on.

I've been asking for this evidence and no one can tell me.
Because the missing link and transitional fossils don't exist.

This is why Lincoln is far more important than Darwin;

In 1862, in order to support the Civil War effort, Congress enacted the nation's first income tax law. It was a forerunner of our modern income tax in that it was based on the principles of graduated, or progressive, taxation and of withholding income at the source. During the Civil War, a person earning from $600 to $10,000 per year paid tax at the rate of 3%. Those with incomes of more than $10,000 paid taxes at a higher rate. Additional sales and excise taxes were added, and an “inheritance” tax also made its debut. In 1866, internal revenue collections reached their highest point in the nation's 90-year history, more than $310 million. This amount was not reached again until 1911.

The Act of 1862 established the office of Commissioner of Internal Revenue. The Commissioner was given the power to assess, levy, and collect taxes, and the right to enforce the tax laws through seizure of property and income and through prosecution.

Hands down Chuck Darwin.

He changed the way we look at the whole world, while Abe Lincoln, sorry, dear north-americans, just changed the USA.

But someone who changed MY world was born on the same date in 1976: Sylvia Saint :nanner:

Dude, you can’t present evidence to these people. They just don’t except it.

is this the kind of question in which you ask the question what are you more interested in : science or politics?

^^ No, it’s a question that is supposed to make us think. I am tired of all the polls about “If you were stranded on a deserted island with 3 porn stars….” Etc.

I think it’s a tough question. I’m torn although I voted Darwin.
