Who Loathes the Other More: Brits or Americans?

I suppose the best thing is to stick it out until the government is strong enough to lay down law and order although part of me thinks this will never happen as people in the middle east will never (or not for many years) adhere to our western model of democracy, they often elect a new leader by simply killing or ousting the old one. Similarly in Afghanistan where democracy and voting are simply not compatable with the tribal system that is currently in place there and changes like this in the west developed over centuries and not overnight. With this in mind I honestly can't see a viable solution which is quite depressing in a way, bear in mind I'm not the only one as I'm sure both the Cameron and Obama admistrations have no idea either, better planning was needed concerning post Saddam Iraq, they needed to know what to do with the country once he was gone, it's simple project management like we all do in our everyday lives when making plans and decisions.

My head feels slightly better after that grenade went off in it, but I just wanted to say I totally agree. It's sadly a no win situation at this point.

Aside from Wimbledon and those wacky royals I rarely give the U.K. a second thought.

I'll take being the worlds greatest military super power as a consolation prize.
“A free Republic, which America is supposed to be, is modest about its military. Only empires act as if the military were the paramount element in society.” - John Seiler

In order to subjugate other peoples, governments must first subjugate their own. Perpetual and endless wars, ruinous inflation and eventual destitution - these are the surefire consequences of empire.

Vlad,

Canada=America lite. They just act like they aren't part of our country. ;)

"Canada is the linchpin of the English-speaking world. Canada, with those relations of friendly, affectionate intimacy with the United States on the one hand and with her unswerving fidelity to the British Commonwealth and the Motherland on the other, is the link which joins together these great branches of the human family, a link which, spanning the oceans, brings the continents into their true relation and will prevent in future generations any growth of division between the proud and the happy nations of Europe and the great countries which have come into existence in the New World." Winston Churchill

I'm making a post cause I accidentally unsubscribed. Happens all the time with the small screen of the phone.

That's a pretty bomb signature dream sparrow and matching 3 dragon symbol thing? I forgot what that meant I remember seeing something on BBC about the 3 dragon symbol if I'm thinking of the right thing.

Cheers. :D It's Wales that has the red dragon as a symbol. The lion features a lot in English heraldry, mostly because of Richard the Lionheart. There's also a lion sitting next to Britannia (the statue in my sig), a Roman era goddess who was the divine personification of the British Isles. Like ANdronicus said, it's just in aid of the footie. :)

Ah, yes. That "certain type." Unfortunately that happens to be the majority. :D

It'd be a shame if that was true, but luckily it isn't. I don't tend to like American governments much, but then, I don't like my own very often either.

Why not just accept and get along?

Brits are ok. I worked in London for 6 months. I loved it. They are different...so are us Americans.

To put it in simple terms, if you've ever had sex with the other nationality you win. I'm American and married a Greek/Brit babe from Islington. She's a lot of fun at the TRF.

From a British point of view I wouldn't say we loathe Americans. Both nations have a lot of interconnected history which has been positive and negative. I think historically (as a generalisation) the British think we're slightly better than everyone else. That myth probably arose from being the foremost global power and largest empire in history. There's an irony there when you look at us now!

Both nations are victims of how our governments and politicians present us. If Britain had a referendum on Afghanistan we'd come out tomorrow, because generally, nobody knows what the fuck we are doing there.

Then there's British humour, Brits love to 'wind each other up' and 'take the piss' we can say something as a joke, which often gets questioned by an american as to whether we are 'being serious?'. Sometimes, this can seem to expose a slight gullibility which we will provoke even more :)

We're like two brothers, we love each other one day, and hate each other the next, but we will always be brothers.

Its just that if you asked an american and a british person to go to the shop for a long weight, it will be the american who stands in the shop and asks for a long weight. :1orglaugh
or for a metric adjustable wrench, left handed screwdriver, glass hammer, Peedo file, 20ft of fallopian tube, copper magnet.......................:1orglaugh

Only joking :glugglug:
