Who is the greatest football player of all time?

This question can surely only be a straight fight between
Pele and Diego Maradona.

My vote is for Diego because I think he was a slightly better all round footballer and he had a much bigger influence in the teams he played for. Pele played in a team (Brazil) which was full of superstars. Maradonna (like Michael Jordan) was like a one man army and almost unstoppable by legal means.

And to all my fellow Brits please try not to be biased by the hand of God goal over 20 years ago. And don't let the coincidental fact that today happens to
be Diego Maradona's birthday sway your vote either. So who is the best?

Well, you could see it exactly the other way around.
Brazil with Pele was always a team with a lot of solo artists that still made a very good team. What happens, when you have a lot of solo artists that don't make a good team, you could see in the years 2006 to 2008, when Brazil wasn't all that good.
Maradonna on the other hand was always a solo artist that only had his team to make him a great solo artist.

That's the biggest difference in my opinion. Maradonna is in my opinion one of the most overrated big players of all time.

If you ask any German football/soccer fan, most of them will give you this answer, even though Pele "dethroned" us several times.

Maradona hands down Pele wouldnt even get a kick of the ball if they were to play 1 on 1 , also Pele played in a great team with Brazil so he won the world cup with the best team , now Maradona won it single handedly with an average team , no player in the world could ever match up to Maradona

The 1986 world cup , you will never see a footballer play better anywhere again ever , he scored the best goal the world will ever see against England , then there was that one when he ran the length of the pitch , right through the whole England team , Pele couldnt do that

So it has to be Maradona :bowdown:

Jim Brown if we were talking American football. Otherwise, I'm not really qualified to offer an opinion. I guess I'd say Pele since he is probably the most recognizable name to those of us who are not aficionados of soccer.
