Which nation is democratic?.. "democracy" isn't mentioned once in the Constitution of the United States of America, it isn't mentioned in The Bill of Rights and it isn't mentioned in the constitutions of any of the individual 50 states. So... :dunno:

Since you're being technical, the US Constitution doesn't have to mention the government being a republic. It defines a government that is a republic.

I don't get it: does the question ask us which system we want to live in as they are right now, or which system we would want to live in if it was perfect conditions for it?

Capitalism in the former and Communism in the latter (assuming it's the whole Star Trek deal). Anyone who tries to argue for anything else is some kind of stupid, I think.

..The quality and service of single payer medicine/ universal healthcare can only be as good as the govts ability to fund it, seems to me that the government is neither timely or proficient when it comes time to creating a budgets, just look at history.
Be careful what you wish for because you might end up being the poor soul who has to hear something like this,
"Sorry Mr. Iceman, we understand that your cancer needs immediate treatment, but there simply isn't enough revenue in our budget to treat you...how about we book you for another look see in about 3 months? Yea, hopefully (wishful thinking) by then we'll have the resources available to treat you... or, you could jump the border into the states for prompt service just like the Canadians have been known to do... Wait a minute! We're in the states!!"

It's not the role of government to be involved in educating its citizens, particularly post grade 12. Seriously, if the government has a monopoly on education, they (the bureaucrats) get to chose the curriculum, and from the looks of things, the government is in control of education today more than they have ever been in the history of our country... have you seen where American students rank these days in comparison with the rest of the world? It's embarrassing!

If I wasn't growing so weary of rubbing my hands against my head, I'd offer a poll which asks: how many people know the difference between economic systems and governmental systems?

It's bad enough that Latin is no longer taught in most school systems. But it's unforgivable that adults continue to debate economic versus governmental systems, comparing and contrasting apples and oranges.
