suppose you won the lottery. not so much that you could buy a nice new airbus for yourself (and a castle in france to fly it to), but enough to be comfortable. after all is settled (you bought a condo/house, have made investments, etc) you have enough cash over to buy 1 exotic car...

which one do you take?

1- Ferrari Enzo
2- Porsche Carrera GT
3- Bugatti Veyron
4- Koenigsegg CCX
5- McLaren F1
6- Mercedes SLR
7- older car: Ferrari F40, F50, Jaguar XJ220, Bugatti EB110...

i have omitted lamborghini because they are not true supercars, they have never been at the cutting edge of technology (well, not since the 60's anyway), and their cars are produced in unlimited numbers- they make as many as they can sell. the porsche turbo does not count for he same reason, it's based off the mass-produced 911. american cars are not included either, because to me a supercar cannot be a kitcar with a truck engine.

personally id' have to with either the Carrera GT or the SLR, they might be the only ones on the list that are actually reliable enough to be used frequently, and what's the point of owning them if you can't drive them?

id probably buy an old GTO but first i would buy a pile of vintage guitars

There's something about the XJ220 that just makes me really, really want one. Plus it's a Jag

I think something is messed up in my man gene. I've never been the least bit interested in cars. As long as they get me form point A to point B with good gas mileage, I'm okay with anything. So if I won the lottery, I'd probably still drive a Honda Civic.

I think a Ferrari would look good in my garage next to my minivan.

Other. Probably a 55 Chevy Bel Air, I have been in love with that car for all my life, I realize it's not a supercar.
But it is the one I want.

Racing is life... anything else is just waiting.
Since the only place you can really put any car through its paces is on a race track, I think I'd choose a real race car, instead of something that would just impress my future ex-wife or guys that I might hang out with. I wouldn't enter it in a car show (or I'd go with a Jaguar E-type Series 1.5), and I don't do the "look at me, I'm cruising!" thing anymore (or I'd go with a Jaguar XJ220). So a Reynard 95I fitted with a Ford/Cossie XB would fit the bill for me. Yeah, I'd love to take the car that won the last (real ;)) Indy 500 around VIR or Road America at speed.

But if I had to choose a road car, I :dunno: I liked the Porsche 959 and the Jag XJ220 (still not road legal in the U.S., I believe) back in the day. And the SLR looks stunning (although it's not known for its handling prowess). So for newer cars, an Enzo or Maserati MC12, I guess. But I'd still much rather have that Reynard! :nanner:

I really want a Lambo, but from your list I'd take the Koenigsegg. Fastest production ever made! Plus it looks fuckin sweet!!!

This is easy,
I said this in the other thread about cars, what kind of car really want, it's the Ferrari Enzo :angels:

I've got a hard on for all these cars. But, I've told myself for the past few years, that when things get better financially, I'm getting me a Mercedes. So, the SLR it is!

I hope you're not besmirching "The Greatest Spectacle in Racing." I've been to every Indy 500 since 1986 (4 yrs. old) and 1995 was not the last real race. The talent level might have dropped off for a few years, but they have some great drivers in the series now (Danica doesn't count). Plus IndyCar is at least taking steps in the right direction. I mea, c'mon, there's a Rahal and an Andretti in the field and they just signed a title sponsor. Now, if they can spread the wealth around and make more than just a two team series, they'll be back in business in no time.

My brother and I are the masters of Indy 500 trivia. We've memorized previous winners dating back to 1971 and can recall them on command. Just looking at the picture you posted, I can tell that you that Jacques Villeneuve drove that car to victory in 1995 after Scott Goodyear passed the pace car with 12 laps to go (roughly). Villeneuve also finished 2nd in his first 500 behind Al Unser Jr. He never returned to the Speedway and thus lost his chance to tie Al Unser Sr. for the best finish in a driver's first three Indy 500s - 1st, 1st, 2nd (since tied by Helio Castroneves).

Sometimes I wonder what useful information I could memorize if I didn't fill my brain up with junk like this...

There is well over a thousand miles of great deserted back roads in California, some twisty, some straight for miles. Some of us even know the state highways that the CHP only patrol once a week. Once I was traveling mid state at a leasurely 110mph when I spot a red Ferrari coming the other way, we passed about six feet apart at a speed difference of over 250mph. I have a friend who goes on runs with the LA Ferrari group (although he just has one of them kit cars). One chilly Jan 1st morning they were taking a break up in the mtns, when Jay Leno pulls over to chat, in that 16 cylinder monster he had built.
Years ago another friend was out in the S Cal desert, trying out the Cobra he had just inherited from his father. While going over a 100, another Cobra catches up to his and signals to pull over. Upon stopping the old guy driving tells him to pop the hood, which he does. After checking the VIN plate, he turns to him holds out his hand and said: "Ok it's one of mine. I'll talk to you. Hello, I'm Carroll Shelby!".

There is so much to do with that amount of money that I would probably have spent it all before even thinking about buying a car.
But if I bought a car (and got a drivers license) it would be a '58 Chrysler New Yorker or a '59 Cadillac Eldorado.
