I think China is already there. I think we are now in a time when being a "super power" will be determined more by your economic might than by how many battleships you have or how much of the world's global military spending you're willing to be burdened by.
By 2050, I think we'd have Mcdonalds on every corner of the street, our brains will be permanently connected to Facebook 3.0 and twitter via our iPhone 26 or Google Android phones. We'll be watching Justin Bieber's grandkid's new Music video in our driverless Google car with a tube delivering Pepsi straight into our stomach. The world is definitely heading that way, we're almost there 
I believe India will be the slave labor capital of the World before 2030. The civilized world will have their cheap goods made there long before then as China will have become more expensive.

agree with most of your points... still, most of India's power comes from a handful of big cities... outside those metros, poverty is still pretty high.

The same thing can be said about the PRC and Brazil. The difference between India and the PRC, however, is that the former isn't ruled by an oppressive handful of corrupt men who run billion dollar corporations and have a hand in every pie in the country. India's economic policies will allow a far greater distribution of wealth than what we've seen in the PRC. There will always be the massively rich and the massively poor, but the middle class will be wealtheir and more politically powerful than the PRC's, which is only a good thing.

A true superpower has to have a navy to project military power globally as in parking an aircraft carrier along with it's air wings off your coast to get you to see things their way. Will China have a navy like that by 2050? More than likely China will remain a regional military power offset by the U.S. military presence in the western pacific.

The Atlantic Council has a Comprehensive National Power Index projection for each 10 year period. By 2050, China and the US will rule the roost. India, Brazil next up. Uk, France, Mexico and Pakistan next up.

What nice things? With the idiots that control our congress? We could be a superpower, there's no natural resource that's not available to us, but those idiots are trying hard to make oil exploration inviable, by creating a lot of taxes and stealing the benefits of oil producing from the places where oil is produced.
Also, those same idiots try everything to ruin education. They are a bunch of small-thinking thieves. Brazil can only become a superpower after Brasilia is nuked when the Congress is full, and they only get there together to vote a raise in their own salary.

China has always been militarily weak; they have performed poorly in clashes with India (also historically militarily weak) and with the Russkis despite a heavy numerical advantage.
