you do it yourself, or get someone to do it for you. Look at the profile link to the left under the thread name and edit your avatar or add a signature.

Are you guys sure you're signed into your accounts while you're browsing. The only time it doesn't show for me is when I'm not, and that happens sometimes specifically in FireFox if you have password saved for a site and do visit it for a while. That's the only explanation I can come up with.
