you don't have to be a hardcore survivalist just to be prepared. it might be adequate to have a plan in place. your condition and locale will dictate your needs. what do you expect to face? flood, earthquake, nuclear accident, economic collapse. . .the list goes on and you can't prepare for every contingency.
put on your tin-foil hat and share your thoughts. be facetious if you like.

i live in an earthquake zone, near a nuclear plant, prone to wildfires, mudslides, and economic collapse. here's a short list of "essentials"
*clean ******** water, or a purification system. we have a hot-water heater and some bleach. 'nuff said.
*canned food. this stuff tastes awful and lasts forever. don't forget an opener.
*well-stocked first-aid pack including dust masks.
************* ***** if you need them. get an extra month worth and rotate stock.
*some form of illumination.
*at least one multi-tool with *****, pliers etc. . .
*extra cold weather clothes. micro thermal blankets (those shiny ones)
*guns and ammo.
*current pictures of loved ones.
*a journal and pencils.
*iodine pills in case of radiation leak. these prevent thyroid cancer.
*baby needs if you have any. diapers, formula etc. . .
*pet needs .
these are kept in various locations on and around the property and in vehicles. a "bug-out bag" for each ****** member is also a good idea. redundency is good, but if you're going mobile, keep it light. cash might be good, or it might be worth squat.
if you're thinking of a long term total collapse of society or somthing like what happened in russia in '90-'95 Premium Link Upgrade ght want to hoard items for barter. some things i've been considering:
*salt and possibly other spices
*cigarettes
*******
*porn
from what i've read, the most valuable commodity in any catastrophic event is your community. get to know your neighbors. if you can all trust each other in good times, then you'll all be a lot stronger in hard times.
but above all, have a plan.
