My Penis Is Dancing!
The only ones I could not list are Following and Inceptions...simply because I've not seen either.
Prestige
Dark Knight
Memento
Insomnia
Batman Begins

Best on top...however, that list seems to change a lot for me. Like his work.

who, then ? :dunno:

Well of course any answer I give is going to be of my own opinion, but:

Martin Scorsese
David Lynch
The Coen Brothers
Paul Thomas Anderson
Michael Mann
Francis Ford Coppola
Michael Haneke
Steven Spielberg
Darren Aronofsky
Werner Herzog
Clint Eastwood

... these are just a few examples of film makers who I think have made greater films than he has.

To pick just one would be ridiculous, nor was that the point of my post. You can't just pick one person out and hail them as the "greatest" because then you have to justify the grounds on which they were compared to their peers and those grounds just aren't going to live up to everyone's specifications. Yes, they may be the writers opinions but don't promote them as some sort of objective truth.

nice list, BB ;)

but i strongly disagree with Lynch (hugely over-rated mumbo-jumbo confusion), Haneke (boring as hell, not to mention tooooooo sloooooow rythm-films) and Herzog (Aguirre is still his strongest effort? c'mon...)

and you're damn right about picking just one.

I would say that Ang Lee is a better (and more versatile) director than all of those.

I agree with that Aguirre is my favourite of his. But he's still alive and he goes on my list.

I've probably left people out. But the general point was made.

Kinda not my point. But no matter...

Well, it's all very subjective.

Personally, I can't say that Nolan is the best director alive. However, I will say that given his fairly limited filmography, he has consistently put out some very entertaining films with great re-play value. If he's not the best, Nolan is most assuredly one of the more promising and noteworthy director's to have come out of this decade.

This is basically my point neatly wrapped up in a nice pink bow. If the article had said that rather than just automatically awarding him an honour that I personally don't think any one individual deserves, then I think it would have been acceptable. I'm sure those who dislike Nolan's work would still disagree with it but they would at least have to conclude and accept that it was only an opinion on the part of the author that a fair majority agrees with.

It's all a language problem.

Anyway, it's only one article I don't know how it became a "thing"? But then again this is FreeOnes after all, we shouldn't wonder about such things.

Well, it's all very subjective.

:hatsoff:
