What you think about gastric bypass?

I don't want to offend anyone and i appologise for that. I know that in the case that a person is not 100% healthy ,any sugery can be dangerous not only a gastric bypass.
People die from different stupid reasons(simple surgery) unfortunately.
I can only think that we do with our hands the life. We choose not somebody else.
I know many people in my country that suffer from obesity. And all this because they didn't took care of their look and body back when they were younger.
Now they regret ,but this is not healing them
I can only learn from this and i am glad because i know that we have one life and one body, if we don't care of our body we will suffer in future from this ignorance.
With all the respect, once again i appologise if i offended someone without wanting.
Kisses,Elly Jaine.

my sister had it done and it done wounders for her!!!
i think it's a risk surgery but all surgery is.
so looks great and feels all better about herself and others around her.

I think the development of the discipline to exercise and eat the right foods is the way to do it. I also think the culture in the US particularly does not encourage this, as most kids learn early on that TV is a babysitter, and snack foods are a balanced meal. Coca cola, snack food machines, and McDonalds replacing traditional school meals, just shows the need to make a profit over the health of individuals.

If it's something a person feels they want done, then let them. Doesn't bother, or really affect me. If it was in a situation with a family member or close friend, I'd seek some other options first.(while fully researching the surgery)

Personally, I think it's a quick fix for people who don't have the resolve and aren't willing to put forth the effort of doing the work or losing weight and getting in shape themselves.

This is correct in the general sense. Also a very important "after goal" step they must learn and live out the rest of their lives with. However "morbid" obesity is a whole different game. These are addicts and so far gone, physically and emotionally its not that simple. Hopelessness is all they know and feel. They don't need a loss of 20 or 50 lbs we are talking hundreds. A long term step by step commitment necessary, even after the surgery.

As I said in my post the need for psychological assistance during the whole process is top of the list. Unlike drug addicts and alcoholics, you have to eat to live. You don't need drugs or alcohol. So To change the persons thinking, help them find pride again and most of all find hope. They will forever be addicts, addicted to something that we all need to live. I have seen the one foot in deaths door attitude, the hopelessness, as well as suffered the loss of my best friend when she stepped on in. At this point when death is inevitable, the risk of surgery is probably not near as high as the chance of heart failure or renal failure that will without a doubt cause death.

I say guidelines need to be set, one case at a time. Never do I feel it should be a shortcut for lazy cosmetically driven diva wannabees. I had a friend die because insurance wouldn't cover a surgery she desperately needed and 10 years later watch a lazy easy fix relative have it done for about 35 or 40 pounds she could have rid herself of easily with AFA's plan above. Now that sucks!!!!!!!!!

As far as I know, it's available in most if not all western countries. I have no idea about the rest of the world, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's available elsewhere. I'm hardly an expert though.

For some people it shouldn't be an option... it should be mandatory.

For one thing I'm not too jazzed about these freakishly morbid people jacking up the cost of medical insurance. I can't wait until the medical community really starts cracking down on fat people.
I'm also thrilled to see airlines starting to charge fatties for two seats. Nothing pisses me off more than being stuck next to some sea cow who's fat rolls are spilling over the arm rest and into my space.
Whether it's a "condition" that isn't their fault or they're just raised to graze in all you can eat buffets they clearly don't have the forethought to do something about it. So if the government ca tell me I can't spank my kids or own certain guns then the man should also start putting his boot on the throats of the fatties.

OMG what a horrible paragraph. I don't think calling people names is a answer, this is a horrible post. To say nothing of the fact that posts like this tell me you are simply a playground bully that never has anything positive to say, using here as a springboard to release your anger for your problems in real life. I certainly would hope I'm right, to think you may live your rl daily with that tude scares me. To voice your opinion on disliking the insurance rate increases or other factors is one thing. You have every right to do that, they are indeed points in fact. You could have discussed it like an adult. Your wording here totally sucks and you are simply a hater and disrespectful. It shows all over the board. You came in here when you joined slamming and continue to do it more and more.

..and save your breath, I've said all I care to.
