Petra pointed this thread to me! Thanks!
There's not "one specific" brand used - but for the most part, still photos are typically shot with Canon or Nikon. I use Canon, but obviously (and even as mentioned in a previous post), that is a personal preference.
Generally, as far as video, I see mostly Sony used...but certainly there are other brands used...and as far as models...there are SO many video camera models, you could not "single out" just one. Primarily Mini DV format is used (that's what I use), but for HD shoots the Mini HD DV format is used.
Some "high dollar" equipment is used, but for the most part, that isn't really "necessary", even for making DVD's - especially with "gonzo/POV style" shoots, like I do. It' all depends on what the producers are going for...clearly a film like PIRATES and PIRATES II by Digital Playground requires a LOT more equipment than gonzo / POV shoots!
When I have been hired as an extra on shoots for Brazzers, for example, they essentially use the same still camera type as I do - and I've seen about 5 different video cameras used, again - probably based on the preference of the "man behind the camera"!
Hope that gives you some insight...
