What Is Your General Opinion Of Police (Law Enforcement Officers) ??

Okay, folks, we've had lots of threads where this issue comes up - connected to a particular incident.

Let's just talk through this.

How would you describe your view/opinion/feelings - in general - towards police (law enforcement officers generally) ?? Why do you have that opinion?

(If you make some distinctions among them as to their behavior (sheriff, police, state highway patrol, state police, federal agents, MPs, etc.), please elaborate herein)

...and lastly, let's TRY TO KEEP THIS CIVIL !!

:wave::glugglug::hatsoff:

I appreciate what they do because I wouldn't want to do it. I just wish everything good the police did made it onto the internet for people to see so they wouldn't ALL have a reputation for crooked pieces of shit.

They are instruments of the state, just like I was when I was in teh armed forces we do what we are told to do in the name of upholding the law.

I respect them-the good ones-for doing the job.

I must admit that I may have a biased opinion, because of my own issues with authority figures overall, but I have what would best be described as a disdain for the police in general.I know there's good ones, and bad ones, but I still get that twinge whenever I'm around one, especially when they're behind me in traffic.

You never hear about the "good" ones because no one wants the good.Good is boring. It's human nature to want to hear about the bad,at least in a general sense.

They are the dogs bollocks. Yeh you get one or two corrupt fucker out of thousands and thousands of decent people. To give your time to your community is one of the greatest things you can do and officers aren't around just to arrest people. Officers make relationships and build bridges between etnic groups, old people who feel fragile and intimidated with crime and youth culture, they set up programmes to help kids have some direction in life and in some cases they are even decent male rolemmodels for kids from many of the broken marriages here in the UK.

Some day i'll get into the Police purely for the benefit of everyone else and not for the powers.

My view for the UK Police, they are all very decent people they don't arrest willy nilly, alot of the times i have been stopped by officers not for anything majorly wrong, something like quite a few years back i was on a push bike at night, an officer just pulled me over asked where i was going because my back light was out, he just advised me said it is a £60 fine. He just gave me advise and sent me on my way, he didn't have to stop me that was all for my own safety. Seems pointless to some but people are needed to ensure public safety as a whole no matter how trivial the subject is someone has to do it and our officers gladly take up the position.

Even when under some extreme pressure these men and women can act on it and keep each other safe, in the UK officers are only equiped with Pepper spray and a batton which is rarely used when they can. They do a good job and for that i applaud.

I get the general feeling whenever something has happened that they will not or can not ever do anything about it.

So, I try to keep them out of my way and I out of theirs.

Oh and what MrTrebus said :hatsoff:

I will post my thoughts into two groups:
French Policemen are divided into many groups like the BAC (Anti Criminal Brigade), the BRB (Banditism Repression Brigade), GIGN, the GIPN, the RAID, the GPSR, the BF, the PN and the GN and not forget the local police. I have met some people that belang to the GIGN (the elite of the French police), very professional, very efficient and very experienced. The GIGN is used in cases of hostage taking, terrorist attack, big bank robberies and heavily armed assaults. The local policemen are just good to put fines or tickets and who can't deal when they have big threats against them. The police nationale or the PN is working with the gendarmerie nationale or the GN for fighting all types of crimes but inside it, its youngest elements are somewhat lacking the experience of their peers. Last week a police bus with prisoneers, was attacked by some people with ak 47 and metal piercing rounds. Police suspects it was done by drug dealers living in suburbs. The BAC and the BRB have some of the most brutal policemen among their ranks and they don't joke with felons. The French policemen carry the SIG Pro and a tonfa. The work of the French policemen is not the same in every town of France.

Concerning American Policemen, I met some Border Control Patrol Agents and Texas Rangers when I was in Texas 10 years ago, different tactics from the French Police but efficient too. I also met some US Marshals and SWAT Team officers from NY and Austin. The SWAT teams are very professional, experienced and highly versatile people no doubt why they are such a good asset for the police in case of extreme situations. Never met highway patrol agents or military policemen. Met some Feds in 1996 at a Dallas shooting range with my uncle and some of his friends, they were very discrete, dressed in black blazer, white shirt and with a black tie, they looked like more businessmen than agents.
They were not very talkative but they were friendly enough to have exchanged some words with us at the range.

Some are good some are bad. I've been fucked with before for no reason, because my radio was too loud or because I "fit a description." They've also violated my rights when they entered my house when I had a party, and because they "saw" me in the window, so that gave them the right to enter my house illegally. A lot of them think they are above the law, which is totally fucking disgusting. However, they have been gracious in other instances. I think they are either really cool or complete assholes; there is ususally no grey there.

People. Just working people. With all the endearments and flaws of most normal people.

I know alot of police officers personally (small town, also I have an uncle, we call Uncle Pig) and 99.9% of them are just good guys. Doing their job to the best of their ability, supporting their family. To those guys, "to serve and protect" actually means something to them. And they will go out of their way to help you whenever you need it. They also carry with them a sense of honor that can be hard to find in the world we live in today. It's a beautiful thing.

Some cops can be real dicks. Just as some people can be. But when you give a dick a badge, you increase the liklihood, magnitude and overall dickiness of dick behaviour.

As a whole the police force is institutionally racist & corrupt.

Police were set up in Amerikkka to protect "whites" from newly unlsaved "blacks". People who join the force 2day I trully believe have mental problems
1. They cant think for themselves
2. Think their better than everybody else(God Complex)
3. Basically are not the smartest people on Earth
4. can get some of that :ak47::thefinger

thats all:wave2:

Lol, but does that mean you don't believe in humanity?

Every officer now must be mentally deranged in some way from wanting to protect the public (no matter what race) because american police were used to protect the whites?

They don't mess with me, I don't mess with them. I've been stopped for speeding and gotten warnngs a few times so I really do appreciate that since it wasn't a big deal, no more than 5 or 6 mph over the limit and they have been very polite. Unlike some cops at some speed trap towns north and south of my hometown who pull you over if you go just a couple mph over the limit and give you a ticket and since you're fron out of town it'd be a hassle to go there and fight it.

One thing I noticed about cops around here (don't ask me how I know) I've noticed that cops tend to pull over hot chicks more often even for no reason. A friend of mine was stopped by a cop near her house supposedly because he was patrolling the neighborhood and wanted to know if she lived nearby... (and maybe he wanted to know if she was single and phone number? I don't know) Plus every time I'm around there I've seen hot chicks going to traffic court. Good thing I'm not a hot chick :D

No I dont believe in humanity. I think deeper than that. I was just giving you a little history lesson on Amerikkkan police. History doesnt die, it just gets forgotten. Most police could give a damn about the public. Its just a job like anything else. Why does the "public" need protection? I can protect myself, I dont need mindless government pawms to do so. People need to stop being so lazy and protect themselves, when it comes down to it police dont protect anything, they only come to the problem. When is the last time you heard of a police officer preventing a crime? They only react. "React and Serve" warrants that is.

:sleep:Most people bore me:sleep: So so simple minded. :crying:

The secret ingredient? MY BALLS
I think that no matter how good of a police officer you are and no matter how much good and safety you bring to your community, our society will always look at you as a being corrupt, racist, egotistical, power hungry asshole.

Personally, I think that people are stupid for thinking that, but I can understand where it comes from. The only news you hear about police officers is when they do something wrong or controversial. You hardly ever hear about Sgt. Perfection who has a clean record of service during his 30+ years on duty. You hardly ever hear about Lt. Big Brother who influences the bad apple kids in his neighborhood and keeps them off of drugs. You hardly ever hear about Police Chief Comfort who has organized a police force that has dropped his neighborhood's crime rate to almost nothing. You hardly ever hear about the good things that police officers do.

I like police officers. Maybe not every single individual police officer (as an individual), but I truly like police officers. Without them, you wouldn't be safe. Whether you want to admit that or not, we all know it's true.

What Is Your General Opinion Of Police (Law Enforcement Officers) ??

They all need overhauled.

They should have to be physically fit.
Intelligent, not a drop out, unless they take classes.

Anger management classes should be a mandatory part of their training.

Harsher punishments for those who break the law.

How can someone who is supposed to uphold the law expect anyone else to follow them if they don't?

Mr. Daystar

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
I think much like helmets on bikers, seat belts in cars, and guns in the house, you only hear the bad side of the story, you never hear the good side, because it doesn't get the ratings. I know a few cops, I've heard the horror stories, and have heard about the assholes that they work with, and the assholes they deal with. I personally haven't got any bad experiences to relate, and I guess I'm lucky, because I've been obnoxious to a couple of them, and didn't get my ass whooped, when I should have. It's a hard, thankless job, and it must be frustrating to do everything you can to try and protect and serve, then have your hard work dismantled by lawyers and judges. It must be frustrating to work hard, and try and set forth an image, and standard, then be judged by the misdeeds of one of your own, one that should know better, but for some reason doesn't. A good friend, who is not a cop put it to me like this...

"Think about this, all you have to do is call for help, any time of day or night, and without any hesitation, and without knowing exactly what danger they face, even death, a policeman will come and help you. When most people run from danger, they run to it. You'd have a hard time finding that kind of loyalty from someone in your own family."
