What is the latest good film you watched ?

Bad Santa

Late to the party watching this as never watched the film properly to enjoy it. I would say for a 90 minutes film, it is good for what it is, not to be taken too seriously. A very rude offensive comedy that even the grinches will enjoy. You can really feel for the character that even though Billy Bob Thornton has a bad exterior he has a warm heart really once you get to know him. Watched number 2 soon after and it didn't leave up to the hype as the 1st one like alot of sequels do so won't go in detail about that.

May December

Both Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman played their roles well in this film. The film is short of 2 hours, but would feel longer and lengthy as it is a slow paced film. This is based on the Mary Kay Letourneau scandal that rocked the 90's and a screenplay about a female teacher that was caught having relations with a underage student and spent time in prison. The film is after this period.

Due to the nature of the film, it is uncomfortable to watch in some parts. Natalie Portman role is a actress who visits her to get first hand insight in portraying these events in an upcoming film. Film won't be for everyone's taste, in particular anyone who been a victim of this.

Emily The Criminal

A crime film which i didn't expect Aubrey Plaza to play well in as i am so use to see her playing comedy roles. She plays as a criminal who you would still root for as the ends justify the means and how due to her current standing in live as resulted her doing a life of crime, credit card scams in particular. The 90 minutes will go very quickly in this.

To Catch a Killer

I'm a huge Shailene Woodley fan, ever since i first saw her in the Divergent film series years ago, so i maybe a little bias in saying this was a good film, and shows the range of her acting abilities. She plays a troubled cop who has been assigned by the FBI to track down a killer who been on a spree in Maryland. You get to see alot of blood, emotions in this film which you will lose track of time. This maybe a copy of all other films out there thats done similar, but this has good depth in the story and the ending i found very brilliant.

Tar

Another film which is quite lengthy, 2 and half hours in fact so i won't be surprised if people are unable to watch this all in 1 go without breaks, i couldn't. The film is a bit slow, especially at the start, but it does pick up pace somewhat later on. A good film where the lead Cate Blanchett a composer is accused of misconduct

Our Ladies

I would think of this as Skins and The Inbetweeners as a comparison, only difference is it's about a group of teenage girls instead based in Scotland. I don't recognise any of the cast but all seem like potential up and coming stars from Scotland. Film is very funny and in your face about these catholic girls who just want to have fun, mainly sex rather than the choir competition that their class has gone to the other side of the country for.

The Independent

Was curious to watch this as it stars John Cena, so gave it a whirl. A great political film which highlights a conspiracy that a reporter has found to have great impact on the election where John Cena's character is apart of being a 3rd option to the traditional 2 horse american race. The ending is a bit of a swerve which kind of highlights many peoples opinions of politics that they are all dirty and corrupt. Who can you really trust when you dig hard enough?

This any good? I hear some saying it's crap as theres barely any dialogue?

Well .. Keanu Reeves only spoke 380 (!) words in JW4, and *I* did not .. pan / discount it for that.

Luxman

#TRE45ON
The Lion King

This adaption is a good contender to the classic version that we all grew up with. The story may not be a exact mirror by mirror remake but it does fill in parts of the story where the original didn't capitalise on.

Wonka

This prequal/origin story of how Wonka became the man we all grew up and loved is perfectly done in the film. A musical which isn't over the top with its song and dance, all the cast were brilliant in their roles, especially the lead. I know many have hated the film but i loved it. The original in the 70's would always go down as the best film, however this would still beat the horrible Johnny Depp version that may of us have witnessed to watch.

The Forever Purge

I know there have been many films and a series in this franchise and to be honest, i have not seen all the films, but i think it doesn't matter as each film is it's own story so isn't the end of the world. Unlike the previous installments this one is slightly different in the sense that this purge goes on longer than usual. It's a short fairly paced films, with some good gunshots for good measure in places.

The Father

Great performances from Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Coleman as an old man suffering from dementia and a daughter who is struggling to looking after him. At a wits end she is looking into getting him into care but he is very stubborn to wanting to get that, even more so in leaving his house that he has been living in for so many years. This hits home for many who have similar situations with their parents if they have come to this stage.

Just Mercy

A film showing a young black man who has been wrongfully convicted of murder and further highlights the racism in american society, not just in the justice system but in everyday life. A Michael B Jordon plays his role amazingly as the lawyer fighting for the accused who is at risk in getting the chair.

Mogadishu

Based on a true story, bit surprised by the premise of both North and South Korea working together to escape from Somalia in the mist of an conflict.

You are not my mother

A very smart and creepy film, where you feel your mother isn't your mother and somehow a clone has taken it's place. It may be subtle at the start but you can easily tell as the film goes on. Film is not a major blockbuster but for what it is, it's a good film.

The Witches

Anne Hathaway version may not hit the same appeal as the original as much as i find her an amazing actress. The cast was brilliant and diverse. The family may be different to what we were bought up with very young, maybe due to wokeness but doesn't take away from the film.

Did anyone see this? Any thoughts?

I'm interested in the material, but there are some mixed reviews about the accuracy. Like him destroying the pyramids in the battles of Egypt.
Apparently there are also some sex scenes, but not exactly interesting

Ophelia

Based on a book of Hamlet, but the film is set in Ophelia's POV which is very refreshing way of seeing things. Some good cast members of Clive Owen, Naomi Watts and Daisy Ridley.

Pig

A drama starring Nicholas Cage. I don't know what to think of this, but it's a good film as he is on the lookout for his Pig which has been kidnapped.

The Jungle Book

Based on the classic, it may not hit home the same way but it's still great viewing.

Drive My Car

A good Japanese film. It is pretty long but it's a good watch about how 2 mismatch people develop a special relationship between them. The visuals and special effects are amazing in this film

I heard about this but didn't think special effects were a selling point. I will have to check it out.

Mud

A good coming of age drama centered around a couple of teenagers who come across a wanted fugitive and helps him avoid being captured. Great cast which also includes Reese Witherspoon as his love. I think this is a powerful film where you feel that even though the fugitive has committed a crime, you really feel for him and want to cheer him on to avoid capture.

The Mechanic

A action Jason Statham film, should i say anymore. Great paced film for a 90 minute film, with a twist towards the end which i didn't expect. Film may not be a major blockbuster but a great watch to pass the time.

The Invisible Man

Film stars Elizabeth Moss who i am most familiar with in the handmaid tale series so thought i give this a watch. I love the premise of this story of where she believes she is being stalked by her abusive ex boyfriend who we believed to have been dead but has obtained a costume that allows him to be invisible. There is alot of good moments in the film where can see Elizabeth's raw emotion of feeling scared and not knowing what's going on. Also on how the things we see, isn't what it seems if you take into consideration the invisible man commuting acts around her.

Nomadland

A slow drama based on a novel of the same name. Film is about a middle aged woman who sells her possessions to live out of van and travel around the country. Film is slow but with the premise story it is meant to be that way.

Your Name

For anyone who is into anime i would recommend this film. Beautiful story and great music which seems to be very common in these kind of films

Night Swim

Saw this the other day with my date. Film was decent, maybe not brilliant but for what it is, was brilliant, some good jump scares which she felt scared by more than me. I enjoyed the premise of the film. The main male lead played his role perfectly as a baseball player who is currently injured trying to make most of his down time. His family move into a house which has a swimming pool, which comes across as a healing tool, but is haunted.

My Heart can't beat unless you tell it to

Believe this film was wrongfully labelled as a horror when really it's more a drama which highlights a problem that many people have to deal with, which is having to keep consuming blood to stay alive, and how 2 siblings go to extreme lengths to make this happen

Weathering with You

Great premise and the special effects is amazing with the music. This highlights the idea of how the weather across the world, not just Japan is becoming more strange, and unpredictable. Gives ideas about whether weather can be manipulated by man.

Cyrano

A romantic musical drama starring the talented Peter Dinklage who despite his talent feels due to his looks and size won't win the heart of a lady who he longs for, who she is currently in love with someone else. This film shows whether a guy like him can ever win a shot at true love

She Said

Film stars alot of familiar names, most specifically Zoe Kazan who i am a fan of and love the stuff she does. Other cast members include Carey Mulligan, Ashley Judd and the late Andre Braugher. This film is based on real life events against producer Harvey Weinstein, which has served as a launchpad for the #metoo movement highlighting all the scandals and harassment he has been involved with down the decades. Both Zoe and Carey have played their roles above and beyond as Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey respectively as New York Journalists. The film is a bit slow but due to the premise and themes involved, the tone and pace was done perfectly.

Ferrari just came out on home media for historical car fans. Showcases the acting range of Kylo Ren.

The Other Guys

A great comedy starring Will Ferell and Mark Wahlberg as two mismatches cops joining forces to show the other cops in the police force their worth. It just doesn't go to plan. Film has good cameo of Samuel Jackson and Dwayne The Rock Johnson.

The Bad guys

Don't recognise any of the voice cast besides Craig Robinson, Awkwafina and Richard Ayoade (who mostly well known for the IT crowd) A great animation film that everyone of all ages can enjoy. This is based off a Australian reading book for children. The funny part of the film is how these bunch of baddies try and turn good, and how you can feel for them when they want to revert back to their own ways. This can just teach to show how a bad person can always turn their life around for good. The way the film ended suggests a sequel could be coming.

The Courier

A spy film set in the 1960's so expect not alot of high tech gadgets to what we would be use to. Film is very old school, not that it's a bad thing as they go with the classical basics like the old James Bond films use to be.

Jellyfish

A film where a teenager seems to excel better in other ventures other than school, in this case being comedy. She strives to make a career out of this, but has to face a dilemma on whether to continue pursuing this or looking after her family. Sinead Matthews plays the mother who i am familiar with in alot of British shows and films

Anna and The Apocalypse

I thought that this was a film, however it had alot of musical elements in it. I found these a bit excessive which ruined the pace of the film in parts which could have done without it, however i liked the premise of the film where it's a horror film involving zombies but around Christmas time.

Mr. Daystar

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
Well, I stepped into the wayback machine, and for the first time in my life, I watch "The Godfather". I have been taking shit from my wife for over 20 years, for not watching it, because I am very proud of my Sicilian heritage, and I love gangster movies. So I finally watched it, and it was a good movie. A movie of subtleties. I liked the movie, but I still think "Goodfellas", and "The Irishman" were better. I'm going to watch number 2 today.

EDIT

I watched part 2. It was good, but still not as good as the other 2 movies, but it was as good as the first, which says a lot, because as we all know, the sequel usually isn't. So I doubt I'll watch them again, but at least the wife won't be able to bust my chops anymore. At least not about the movies.
