What is the best band of the 90's?

to me the 60's and 80's music was kind of similar in a sense that it was not that deep, profound, just have fun , upbeat music mostly.
the 70's and the 90's had that more profound tone, more symbolic, at times dark and harder also.
just seems like that to me.

60's and 80's just fun upbeat music? Dylan of the 60's upbeat? Billy Bragg and The Smiths of the 80's upbeat?
What about the fun upbeat music of the 70's - Slade anyone?
Can't think of anything upbeat in the 90's, but there must be plenty there too.

Man
Sir?
It was a generalization of all music from those decades.
Of course you can find exceptions.

From a "personal favorite" standpoint, I'd say Alice in Chains. From the view of who was the most important and had the biggest impact, that would be Nirvana.

Others would be Green Day, Pearl Jam, Collective Soul and Stone Temple Pilots.
