What is Capitalism

Good to see some companies showing that capitalism can work without crushing the low-born. There are more out there. We should help them however we can.

This is the support and momentum the side of sanity needs. Full pressure on the extreme right, authoritarianism, and runaway capitalism. The time to retake some ground is now.

Costco will probably announce employee layoffs next year, after having record profits.
Company executives, shareholders, and possibly management will give themselves bonuses for cutting costs.

They were happy and normal before all the money and fame warped their minds.

Kendall Jenner Proves "Money Does Grow on Trees" (S2, Ep 5) | KUWTK Klassics | E! (aired 2008)

This crap reality show has a 2.8 rating on IMDB, how has it continued for 20 seasons???
I guess as long as it makes a profit, it will continue indefinitely.
Another example of defective capitalism.

Be careful luxman, someone may think you're against the federal minimum wage. :)

Pathetic. Only in NY, WA, and NH is the average over $15 for EMTs: https://www.ziprecruiter.com/Salaries/What-Is-the-Average-EMT-Salary-by-State

Someone earlier was willing to increase the cost of his fries by fifty cents. Minimum wage jobs are generally equated with fast food and retail workers. But this points out the real problem: skilled and critical jobs being low-balled. Big medicine at its finest.

I have no opinion
One thing that will happen if a Federal minimum is raised to a high level is that those folks currently making that wage(whether $15 or?) when they realize that the "fast food workers " are making the same as them, will demand raises. Not necessary a bad thing but just watch.

Exactly. The fine residents of Wichita Falls, TX will finally have the same minimum wage as New York City.

There is something to be said for cost of living though. I am sure you have heard of the companies that as work from home has taken effect more permanently and employees are moving to cheaper places to live are finding the wages cut. Figure they don't need the money for equivalent wages.

Best of show right here. 🏆

Those who think Christianity isn't socialist, should consult their own guidebook.

The older book: "Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done."

The newer portion: "In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.' "

Never thought I'd see pro-capitalism memes from Luxman.
I am pro-capitalism, it's the best economic system invented so far, when it's properly regulated.
I'm just trying to point out some of the corruption in our capitalist system.
The best economic system, that benefits the most people, is a combination of both socialism and capitalism, finding the right balance is the difficult part.

I think there's plenty of room to argue that the evidence doesn't bear that out. I think capitalism is every bit as vulnerable to corruption as communism when the proletariat has no voice. In fact I'd argue that the outcomes are pretty close to indistinguishable.
I'd also argue that not just the US, but a lot of Western democracies, were a hell of a lot closer to the right balance 70 years ago than they are now.

@Luxman is being the voice of reason.
  • Capitalism works when properly regulated.
  • The best system is a balanced combination of socialism and capitalism.

What socialist county has a better standard of living than the US?

Seriously, racism? That's pretty willfully ignorant, even for you. Nobody with any common sense could read my statement in context and jump straight to that point.

I strongly suspect that every country with a higher standard of living than the USA is more socialist than the USA.

I'm not arguing that socialism is better than capitalism. I'm suggesting that this pervasive acceptance that capitalism is the best system we've got even with it's flaws isn't supported by fact. I'm suggesting that maybe when we find this "right balance", it might not be capitalism with some socialist bits, it might be socialism with some capitalist bits.

How was 1950 capitalism better than 2020 capitalism?

Even if every country had a balanced system of capitalism and socialism, they would all be different, some would be more capitalist some more socialist, it isn't an exact science at this stage of human evolution.
