What in the fuck is wrong with people?!

Each to their own and everything but I don't understand the need or want to absorb depressing or terrible news stories. Life's hard enough! It was like when the pandemic first hit hard, you've got people spending their day analysing how terrible it is and how much worse it was going to get and how many people died today. Twitter was full of them especially. So I didn't read the news for about a year or go on social media, and I coped with it all far better than I normally cope with anything, what with a GAD diagnosis and all.

But by all means carry on, I'll be over there with my head buried in the sand.

Having a go at Steve, but I'll add this as my contribution to the thread. :p

As much as it is dangerous and discouraged, let's be honest, we love seeing criminals getting their assess handed to them like that. I'm temped to put that story in the "good news" thread.

It is sad though that if that chair crushed the guy's skull and left him permanently injured or dead, the store employees would likely have been charged.
Does stand your ground apply when it's your workplace and you yourself aren't being threatened?

No, stand your ground, applies to you and your family, or your property. If someone is stealing your car, you can't walk up on them, and shoot them, but if someone tries to carjack you at gun point, that's a whole different animal, If you have a ccw, you are not allowed to defend someone you know is a felon, or that was a rule when I learned almost a decade ago, they change, you have to keep up, it's the ccw holders responsibility.

A good news thread would be a great idea. I posted a few links in the politics section, about some drug cartel stuff, but I figured it was a "war on drugs" thing. I'm sure Steve would appreciate a thread that isn't so dismal. I guess your the "glass is half full" kind of guy.

Actually, I've said my piece on this thread and happily endorsed it for those who want to use it. I wasn't planning on commenting in it again until your dumbass waded in, so congrats?

Please feel free to contribute! We can always use news that makes us smile!

It's too bad stand your ground doesn't apply in that case. Although, if you're the owner (or part of the owner's family) that would technically qualify as "your property" right? I get a feeling that a good portion of those who fought back were owners of the business. After all, a minimum wage Walmart employee isn't going to risk their life, or even give 2 shits about a shoplifter. You would really need a stake in the business to put your life at risk like that.

I thought you meant, if you worked in an office, and some thug comes in and grabs the dude that's been tapping his wife and starts brawling. You do not have the right to charge in, just an obligation to call police, whether it be moral or legal. If he's come to attack you, then you can stand your ground If you are a shop owner, and your daughter works behind the counter, you do have the right, your shop, your family, defend, or protect with lethal force if warranted. Someone swinging a ball bat, is legal grounds. But in any case, you have to be very careful. You are responsible for that bullet until it stops, and what, or whoever it passes thru. Things are very different when it's not a cardboard target. and it's shooting back. Or at least I've been told.
