Video game adverts. They're a massive fucking con. Every single one bears the "not actual game footage" warning across the bottom because they only show you cut scenes so it plays like a fucking movie trailer, and you have no bloody idea what the game actually looks like. I personally haven't bought a new game since the last 2D beat em up I got for my PS2 but if I was still buying games, I'd only ever buy ones I'd already played at friends' homes, because there is no fucking chance I'd risk it based solely on the advert making the game look good.
I miss honest, 90s style ads for games where you actually see Mario jumping from platform to platform or Ryu giving Ken a Shoryuken. These days you'd just see a cut scene of Mario with his hands and face down someone's u-bend while a voiceover tells you "In-a my business-a, you never know when a principessa is-a going to need a rescue-a..." and then a dramatic koopa's POV shot of his feet about to stomp on them. Or the romantic subplot cut scene of Chun-Li giving Ryu a blowie, or whatever the PG equivalent is. Kissing, I guess.
