We are not hiring until Obama is gone...

Whether he knows how to run a business or not is up for debate. But most anyone who has made it through even a year of business school would tell you that it isn't wise to hitch your business to political statements. So whether it's Bush or Obama being criticized, if the actual reason he's not hiring is because demand is down, then he risks alienating some portion of the demand base that's still there by doing foolish things like this. He should have crafted a positive statement and left politics at the door, IMO.
You make an excellent point. However, with Obongo's approval rating at an all time low, there aren't that many people that he is going to alienate. I believe most everyone in this country, including all colors of race are pretty much disappointed in Obama and his presidential skills, or lack there of.

You're claiming that the risk isn't that great because many people are disappointed in Obama. But with an approval rating of 43% +/- (according to Gallup), you'd admit there is still a risk, yes? So what I'm asking is, what is the reward versus that risk? Why take a risk without a plausible reward? Why am I not building spec houses on some land I just cleared of timber? Because, even with low interest rates, the demand for housing is down in my area and I see no reason to take a gigantic risk for a limited reward. A business, large or small, exists to enhance shareholder value. Spending money on vinyl decals or paint, in order to make a political (not business) statement, is (IMO) a waste of resources. This same amount of money could have been used to fund a positive advertising campaign, which would have alienated NO ONE, and at the same time, possibly brought in more customers. I have no idea what it costs to decal or paint a truck. But to do a race car up right, it costs about $5 grand. So assuming a truck costs something close to that, and let's say this guy has three trucks, he could have had a pretty decent advertising campaign or hired a part-time worker for that $15 grand.

Tea Party Nation Urges Businesses To Stop Hiring In Order To Hurt Obama Link

Except for all the proof that shows the OWS people mostly have jobs. It has been posted elsewhere. However, feel free to ignore the facts in order to perpetuate your absolutely ridiculous worldview.

Rey, again you make a valid point. However...

WACO, Ga. -- A west Georgia business owner is stirring up controversy with signs he posted on his company's trucks, for all to see as the trucks roll up and down roads, highways and interstates:

"New Company Policy: We are not hiring until Obama is gone."

"Can't afford it," explained the employer, Bill Looman, Tuesday evening. "I've got people that I want to hire now, but I just can't afford it. And I don't foresee that I'll be able to afford it unless some things change in D.C."

Looman's company is U.S. Cranes, LLC. He said he put up the signs, and first posted pictures of the signs on his personal Facebook page, six months ago, and he said he received mostly positive reaction from people, "about 20-to-one positive."

But for some reason, one of the photos went viral on the Internet on Monday.

And the reaction has been so intense, pro and con, he's had to have his phones disconnected because of the non-stop calls, and he's had to temporarily shut down his company's website because of all the traffic crashing the system.

Looman made it clear, talking with 11Alive's Jon Shirek, that he is not refusing to hire to make some political point; it's that he doesn't believe he can hire anyone, because of the economy. And he blames the Obama administration.

"The way the economy's running, and the way my business has been hampered by the economy, and the policies of the people in power, I felt that it was necessary to voice my opinion, and predict that I wouldn't be able to do any hiring," he said.

Looman did receive some unexpected attention not long after he put up his signs and Facebook photos. He said someone, and he thinks he knows who it was, reported him to the FBI as a threat to national security. He said the accusation filtered its way through the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security and finally the Secret Service. Agents interviewed him.

"The Secret Service left here, they were in a good mood and laughing," Looman said. "I got the feeling they thought it was kind of ridiculous, and a waste of their time."

So Bill Looman is keeping the signs up, and the photos up -- stirring up a lot of debate.

"I just spent 10 years in the Marine Corps protecting the rights of people... the First Amendment, and the Second Amendment and the [rest of the] Bill of Rights," he said. "Lord knows they're calling me at 2 in the morning, all night long, and voicing their opinion. And I respect their right to do that. I'm getting a reaction, a lot of it's negative, now. But a lot of people are waking up."

Is this thread a condemnation of the jobs credit that the Obama Administration put through? Because yes, they did not work. :)

He made a lot of bullshit promises that he couldn't and still can't keep. He was also a failure in his own illinois state as a senator so what did you expect

I'm simply making an observation based on the man's own words, and what has happened to his business because of his actions:

And the reaction has been so intense, pro and con, he's had to have his phones disconnected because of the non-stop calls, and he's had to temporarily shut down his company's website because of all the traffic crashing the system.

Now the website is down and the phones are shut off. So while it may not have been his intention to make a political statement, that is what he made. And that statement has had a negative impact on his business, by his own admission. Clearly, this campaign has not enhanced shareholder value and it doesn't appear to have increased demand for his products or services. And since customers can no longer reach him, he has likely put existing customer demand in jeopardy (that was the plausible risk I was referring to). All this has done is create controversy and "noise" for his business - two things that most (successful) businesses try to avoid. This is one reason why every Fortune 500 company I have ever worked with or for has had a strict media policy, which prevented employees from making unapproved statements to the media. Statements to the media or the public need to be measured and carefully considered for unintended consequences. This fellow didn't follow that lesson.

From heavy equipment to small boxes, I've had to have items shipped all over North America. And one thing I won't do is waste my time attempting to get through to someone, who may have good prices, but did something stupid and now his phones and website are down. It's nice that this guy was a Marine and served his country. But it seems to me that he should have probably spent a year or so taking basic business courses before opening this operation.

Woooow. I honestly don't know what else to say to this right now. I think that intended or not that political statement was a very stupid move on the business owners part. It has COMPLETELY blown up in his face. By the look of things he won't have to hire anyone because he won't even have a business. Due to not being able to even DO business since he's on lockdown!

He knows what he's doing. ;)

They are simply hypocrites. The "occupy" people are mostly children with no direction and that are unemployed.

They are also destroying property, raping, disease is spreading, and so on.
the occupyers are not children and the ppl raping or destroying are just a tiny minority. and they are protesting because their unemployed

Yeah, you get where I'm coming from. It's not about agreeing or disagreeing with the message. It's about whether a business' message is directly related to the business and/or is going to help the business. In this case, it wasn't related to the (daily) business and it not only didn't help the business, it hurt the business. The technical term for a man who does what this goober did is "dumb ass". I would call him up and tell him that... but he's got no phone now! :rofl2:

Another ignorant redneck makes another ignorant statement. Will you fools ever understand that you put George in office therefore you should let the adults make the decisions and stay out of the way.

Well done Bill Looman! He understands that B.O. is destroying this country running a deficit more than all the past Presidents combined in his first three years.
