I liked the Union of Maedhros.

I am totally against Unions. Especially in sports.

Unions have outlived their purpose. Now they're more part of a problem than a solution. Don't get me wrong, I am grateful for what early unionists accomplished. If you compare working conditions from back in the early XX Century (that's 20th Century, not a double X rated century) to conditions nowadays.... I mean, saying that "booo-hooo, my insurance plan doesn't cover glasses" is equal to being worked 80 hours a week and paid a dollar a day is nonsense. Conditions have improved since then. I mean, from what I read about Marx, it seemed that the guy didn't expect conditions to change for the better and of course if they hadn't I'm sure I'd be a card carrying communist myself, but they did improve. Thanks, unions!!! But you've overstayed your welcome!!!

I HATE unions (or at least french unions). They are messing with politics, criticizing every government decision (particulary if the Right has the government), refusing all changes, always asking for less and easier work with more money
Unions are the reason France in alway on strike (Nurses, teachers, Air Pilots, stewarts and hostesses, truck drivers, etc...). TYhey've even invented preventive strike : They sometimes start strikes becausesome new law may be the 1st step towards something they refuse :facepalm:

To me, unions are the Cancer of labour.

Get rid of unions? Sounds great. Corporations have to go first, though.

Why save the world, when you can rule it?
You're an idiot.

I know you are. What am I? Fag.
Don't cuss, girls. You'll make Petra cry.

As regards unions; unions are the enemies of a free market ensuring the free flow of capital and the betterment of society. They must be destroyed in order to promote human and corporate health, wealth, happiness and growth. Never has a union done a good thing, they represent nothing more or less than a parasitic drawing on the energies of the corporations that are essential to ensuring universal happiness on a global scale.

I agree with a lot of this. I think the unions are largely responsible for the demise of Detroit, for example. The unions grew to have an unreasonable amount of power, were able to demand outrageous salaries and benefits, and on and on it goes.

However, to get rid of them completely is...uncomfortable. I simply don't trust employers to treat their employees well, simply because it is the right thing to do. I don't know what the solution is, either a re-drafting of the concept of union, or the creation of something entirely new, but I do agree that change/reform need happen in regard to the function of unions.

Mr. Daystar

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
They started out as a good idea...if Hoffa were still around, driving a truck wouldn't suck as much as it does...but like everything else, they've been twisted, and perverted into an abomination of abuse. Now a days, if you want a union job, all of the experience and qualifications in the world mean nothing....but if your uncle works there, your in.

Bla, bla bla...been covered before. Necessary evil. They are overhead. There are successful corporations that do treat their workers fairly and are more competitive because of it. Would they do it or would there be as many without unions? Doubt it.

IMO, this discussion is an act of trollism. It is a free country (from where I'm typing :) )

Unions = Legalized Extortion.

Unions = Legalized Extortion.

There is that. However, from your other postings I can tell you pride yourself on knowledge of history. Before the Labor Unions, were there a few examples of unfair practices against the workers? I seem to remember some folks only getting paid in company script so they could buy things at the company store and they did not earn enough to pay for everything they purchased at that store.

As I've said, Unions are overhead. There are companies who actively work to keep unions from forming and in doing so they treat their employees as actual stakeholders (which they are).
