I'd never played any of the Uncharted games before other than a demo a couple of years ago which didn't hold my interest at the time. But after playing The Last of Us, Naughty Dog was definitely on my radar. I've had the pleasure of binge-playing the Uncharted games 1-4 in recent weeks and have just finished Uncharted 4 today experiencing it all for first time in one continuous run. I've loved it. Each game in the series has been a better experience then the previous one culminating with Uncharted 4:A Thief's End, and what and end - Naughty Dog's Magnum Opus. They've once again hit it out of the park but this time out of the atmosphere and into earth orbit.
Where to start. The visuals. They are absolutely jaw-dropping and in many instances have achieved photo-realistic parity. I didn't think this level of detail (and at a rock solid frame rate) was possible on this generation of console but they've pulled it off. The guys and gals responsible for this are truly masters at their craft. The action sequences - there were so many times I was like "no, f'n, way." They put big budget hollywood action movies to shame. The story, the character development and dialogue are right on par with their excellence. Gameplay mechanics are spot on as well. Oh and the enemy A.I. in firefights is no joke. They take cover, suppress, flank and use their weapons, equipment and their environment to their advantage. The firefights are more intense than any first person shooter I've played.
I'm going to say this is the best video game ever made and another perfect example of how video games have surpassed films as an art form (IMO). The Last of Us is still my favorite game of all time only because I find the story more compelling, but Uncharted 4 is definitely the most fun. I think Uncharted 4 sweeps the Game of the Year category like The Last of Us did. Just the level of care and detail shown in this game and this series show that it was truly a labor of love by the developers. And they deserve all the accolades they get.
Bravo, Naughty Dog. I wanted to stand and applaud when the credits started rolling but didn't want to wake anyone up.
