The F-35 and F-22 are for lower tier opponents. Iran would be very difficult opponent with modern Russian fighters, anti ship missiles and SAM systems. The Russians have the second largest air ***** in the world, and the best ground based SAM systems in the world. Russian medium SAMS and SHORADS protect long SAM systems from low level ****** from aircraft and cruise missiles. Russian long range SAM, medium SAM, and SHORAD vehicles can be linked through command vehicles, so that Medium SAM and SHORAD vehicles can operate in silent mode. Russian SHORAD and Medium SAM vehicles would be undetectable by enemy aircraft and cruise missiles. Plus, Russia has vast range of short and long range electronic countermeasure systems.

The Russians are putting more missiles on their SAM systems, so they can deal with the cruise missile threat.

I'm very perplexed as to the purpose of this post. Are you contending that American technology is so far behind the curve against Russia that we have no hope of competing in a genuine aerial combat scenario using the weaponry that is featured in the video you posted....even if pitted against the Iranian Air *****? If that's your claim, pardon me but I don't believe that for a second.

I have previously enjoyed debating you on historical issues on occasion although your obvious slant in favor of the glorification of the Soviet Union and its ensuing incarnation in the present day sense on virtually every issue that you bring up is a bit disturbing (especially since you claim to be an American citizen) and is indicative of a significant bias in that regard on your behalf. Now, I am not suggesting you should concede blind superiority to the military might of the United States in every instance and without exception and I am certain that Russia devotes many more resources toward certain "defensive" enterprises like SAM sites than we do. However, let's be real....if Russian air ****** were able to make it to the shores of America without being challenged in any other significant fashion, we'd need a helluva lot more than a shitload of SAM sites in order to keep us safe. Even still, I'm fairly confident the Pentagon has already thought about this contingency. Maybe I'm wrong but I'm guessing not. We have a pretty good resume when it comes to waging war in case you missed it.

Not saying you are one of these but your online tactics certainly seem to be congruent with same. I've researched your previous posts and no one on this forum has provoked you to initiate such threads....you seem compelled for some reason to constantly extol the virtues of the Russian military infrastructure, defend its present government for proactive actions like the annexation of the Crimea and events in Ukraine and get your panties all twisted because Obama chose to snub their WWII "Victory Day" celebration....why is that? I haven't talked to any other fellow American who felt similar emotions. Please allow me to ask you....are you genuinely concerned and warning all of us because of your superior knowledge on this subject (and, if so, please do enlighten us further!) or are you simply rooting for one side against the other? Please understand I am not making any accusations....just wondering. :dunno:

Ivan The Russian Nightmare Koloff and Nikita Koloff were really from Ohio. Just throwin that out there.

I am into following the newest developments in regards of military and other technology, and I am pretty sure that, extrapolating from what I seen on the fields of high-end airplanes and marine vessels, reardiing the sheer amount of money and the devotion to being on top - there is no doubt the US ****** are pretty safely on top of things.

Mind you: We always have to acknowledge that we really only know so much about what actually is out there already and in the works. Np way we get to know the real best-of they got.

Regarding the fascination for Russia: No way in hell I would choose that side.

So many mistakes! Ivan "The Russian Bear" Koloff is French Canadian, Nikita is from Minnesota.

Yeah you're right. Growing up it was rumored that they were from Ohio and were really brothers.
..Maybe Dino can clarify but I thought Ivan may have gone by "Russian Nightmare" before "Russian Bear". It has been many years. But I used to get a kick out of them snapping to attention to the Soviet National anthem

I'm a defense contractor, and have serviced in Iraq and Afghanistan. The DARPA video nothing but propaganda. DARPA knows that Russia uses Medium SAMs and SHORAD to protect their long range SAMs. Iran is under a offensive weapons UN arms embargo, and it does not have most those items. Iran's current military is not a big problem for our military, but I expect Iran to sign the nuclear deal with P5+1. Iran can then rearm their military with state art Russian weapons.

The Russians and Chinese have very good equipment. They cannot project naval and airpower like U. S. can in any part of the world. But we would not win fighting a war with them close to their territory. I not talking about ground ******; U. S. spend over least 6 months to deploy our ****** in both the Gulf Wars. Russia and China would greatly outnumber and outgun any ground ****** close to their territory. The Russia arms industry is the most the most industry in world. No country has attempted to rearm itself with state of the art at this pace in history.

I was glorifying the Soviet men and women that fought in WWII. Stephen F. Cohen is called a Putin lover because he doesn't follow the biased Western academic and media line against Putin. I have made many disapproving statements about Putin, so you have done very poor research. You can find some my statements in the Ukraine thread. Most Russians don't trust their government, politicians, and media. But their lives have improved drastically under Putin's time in office, so he gets his people's support for his policies. The current government of Ukraine is doing many of the same things as Putin, but our media is sticking to the official U.S. government line, and not reporting Ukraine's problems. I think like 99% of Crimea has received Russian citizens. Ukraine does not allow dual citizenship. Again, the West has played a huge role in this war. Ukraine is broke, and financing its war with western backed IMF and World Bank loans. I back up vast majority of my statements with factual information.
