What people like you fail to realize is that the 2nd amendment exists not for the people to defend themselves from invasion, but to defend itself from tyrannical government. America won independence from tyranny because its citizens had guns, and we may have to do it again with the way our government is headed.
PS- The US still has a militia, it has merely evolved into the individual state's National Guard.

There have also been provisions in the past where the UN has prevented this nation from acquiring it's own national resources.
You see, they would rather we starve or perhaps freeze to death than gather the necessary sustainable resources within the nation's boundaries.

And for the countless number of unpaid traffic tickets (nearest headquarters), the endless stream of extended executive privileges, their dealings with the world's most wealthy hedge fund manipulator / megalomaniac, kofi & son and their subterfuge etc. ad nauseam. As long as it's earmarked from a left leaning org, it's OK ! They have a battery of the best attys that money can buy ! for they'll articulate the good as bad - bad as good, truly world class semanticists (bullshit artistas).
They even allowed Kofi Annan in "the house" with a loaded, holstered firearm ! And they want to disarm us ? :thefinger

All large institutions have some amount of corruption.But to say the UN is more corrupt than any other one like the US govt is a real stretch I think.As I remember their has been a couple of presidents in trouble.Lots of congressman also, some of which are doing time as we speak for taking bribes(Duke Cunnningham comes to mind),lobbyists like Jack Abrimoth bribing people,page boys being molested,cases of politicians caught in prostitution rings,senators looking for sex in public bathrooms and on and on and on.
And actually I think the revolution was about "taxation without representation" being the primary gripe.I just point that out as a historical fact,the colonies and the people which most of considered themselves to be loyal to england just felt they were not being represented fairly.The US sure can't claim that in regards to the UN.
But as you say there is not a big possibility that the US is going to cede much soverignty to the UN.Even though if the UN did have more power over the world that would really mean the US had more power in many cases over the world as we are easily the 800 lb gorilla in the organization.If any other country had done what we have done in Iraq they would have numerous UN sanctions against them,but since it was the US nothing has been said officially by the UN about it.And one good thing if the UN was listened to more by some like the US ,we would have never gotten ourselves into the quagmire and debacle Iraq is.
And lastly I also question the validaity of this whole story ,if it was true that someone was talking about giving this authority to the UN I think it would be a much bigger story then it seems to be.I have heard it nowhere but here.

This bill, like George's rise to presidency will come to fruition if enough of these "idiots" pass it. Basically, get off your arse and vote if you want a government and officials you can be proud of. But c'mon, I can not, will not, and refuse to believe anyone NEEDS a gun. If your community is that dangerous that it warrants personal protection by means of a firearm, clearly other issues both social and economic need to be addressed.

Guns are essentially the easiest means to commit murder. America has one of the highest homicide rates in the world. 1/3 that of Russia, and murder is rife there. America is by no means a world leader in stemming domestic violence. Personally, I see this bill as a potential positive turn for American society. To say it is anything else is completely ridiculous. Australia put a complete ban on the purchase of firearms after several mass shootings at Port Arthur and Monash University. America has had plenty of those but no-one has woken up to reality.
