Ty Cobb---What A Prick!

Damn right Sherm. I don't care what or who he didn't have to face, the man hit more HR's than entire teams! When he hit his 600th the next player behind him had 2 hundred something.

I am not looking for an argument, but look at the stats Lou Gehrig put up. In many cases, they pitched to Ruth cuz Lou was up next

You wont get an argument from me. Lou was amazing too. But his career started 10 years after Babes.

Gehrig did nothing but riding Ruth's coat tails...Gehrig was nothing but a disease, and a disease is how he died!
:elaugh:

Not only did Babe Ruth hit a ton of HRs, he had a career .342 avg, and he even pitched for a few years with 94 wins to 46 losses and a 2.42 ERA.

My stupid parents threw my baseball cards away while I was away at college :thefinger

The only cards that survived the purge were my 1955 (rookie) through 1966 Topps Sandy Koufax cards and a Topps 1955 Roberto Clemente rookie card.

most cards aren't worth much if theyre in bad shape, even 50's cards, with exceptions of some stars.
and selling them for a decent price is a bitch too, even on ebay.
but those cards you mentioned that survived are nice.
i had a 56 koufax, in pretty good shape back around 1988.
tried to sell it at a card convention.
showed it to many dealers. the best offer was 8 bucks.
8 bucks.

there are probably more football players on performance-enhancing drugs or have been arrested than baseball players (you want to do totals or percentages, I don't care), but the big difference is the hardcore football fan doesn't give a shit about that stuff. As long as the player suits up on Sunday, he can shoot up the rest of the week.

It's still unbelievable to me the free pass football gets. There are guys that are bigger than any steroid user I've ever seen, and I've only heard of 3 failed steroid tests, but I'm willing to be many many more are on them.

Good player or not...Cobb can rott in his grave...fucking racist douche!
:horse:

He was such a fucking contradiction it wasn't funny. The guy gave tons to poor people in Georgia, built playgrounds and ball yards for kids, and even vocally respected Jackie Robinson. But when he played, he got a kick out of exploiting a young Black kid, by paying him to shine his shoes, sleep under his bunk, etc., calling the kid "'Lil Sambo.":dunno:

baseball and its union use an outside company to conduct the testing. Lots of area for leaked reports.

The NFL, as is its socialist and communist ways, conducts the tests themselves. No leaks, and those reports about cough medicines always stunk to high heaven. But when the masses root for the uniform more than the player, it doesn't matter.

Shawn Merriman was suspended for PEDs and still got votes for MVP. The media doesn't care either.

Great marketing by the NFL to position itself this way. I applaud them. I like football and am excited about the coming season, but I am not "that guy" when it comes to the NFL.

The NFL and the NBA are the same in that regard.

I get why Cobb is in the HOF in with the whole racist thing and that is mainly because it was apart of the time he played in. A whole lot of racism was going on back then to the point where it was no big deal. I mean the guy was inducted in 1936 and black people were still a way's away from being treated as equals.

well we all acknowledge cobb was probably a real dick.
I'm sure maildude won't mind if we hijack his thread.
I had a hell of a collection, high grade, psa graded.
My most loved card was a 53t mantle, and my prized set was a 75t complete and pretty much mint all around.
What was your best card/s?
Oh and Ty Cobb was a real dick

T Cards are worth a fortune.:2 cents:

Everyone knows Ruth is the King...regardless of stats!

That's the thing, it's stats that count, not personal opinion, when judging who is best and who isn't. And no I am not in support of Cobb or Ruth. I don't follow baseball at all. I have only seen the Tommy Lee Jones movie based on Cobb so that isn't enough for me to make judgment on the man. Personally I'd have to say that from what I see and hear Ruth is a tad overrated.

one of the best baseball players of all time...his attitude or anything else will never chance my opinion on that
