I must admit, I think it's daft about the 5 posts rule. I know the intent : to stop people just signing up to the board to enter the competition so that it's open only to active, participating forum members. But all that happens is you get people joining just to enter the contest, making 5 nothing or rambling posts that contribute nothing (often to the competition thread itself), then they get to enter.
Uh-oh, I think they're on to me. :uohs:

Do you guys search for something to bitch and complain about just to bitch and complain? If the contest requirements bother you that much, why don't you search for a board that does it the way you want it run?
As welshman599 observed, this is par for the course. For example, I belong to a couple boards dedicated to my fave sports teams, and the bitching on there is often epic, particularly after losses. "The head coach should be fired!" This player "should be traded," or that player "should be released!" It's what tends to happen on the internet: people get a tad worked up about... well, most everything. However, even as a newbie to these parts, it appears to me that those who drew your ire in this thread enjoy this board; and, ergo, enjoy the way you run it. As for myself? I enjoyed participating in the contest and didn't go into it with any particular expectations, as I figured there'd be a ton of entries and my chances of winning would be low. I find that if one can approach life in that way, not expecting or feeling owed anything, then one is able to weather life's inevitable stormy periods much better. :yinyang:

Petra, I know from a dozen other boards and real world communities that things get discouraging for those who run things and its pretty easy to feel unappreciated especially since we humans are generally a pretty whiney bunch at the best of times, but know this: we members do appreciate it ALL. I belong to a lot of boards, porn and otherwise, where nothing is offered ever, and boy it is nice to see an active and entertaining forum like this. As far as post numbers go, I think I was pretty close to minimum the first time I entered a contest but taking part in it brought me from lurker to member with an astronomical 92 posts. So from that perspective a low contest threshold can encourage participation, and that is a good thing. Anyway, again, thanks, your work is appreciated.

Oh, I know there's plenty of people who enjoy this. This isn't my first rodeo. :) It's just a certain few that go on and on and on beating that dead horse. Especially about on particular contest. :brick:

For every 1,000 people who love it, there's going to be those 10 miserable people that even if you do it 100% to their specifications, they'll still find something to bitch about.

Anyways, onwards and up. I'm working on updating the contest page since I'm getting a few more lined up. Plus, I'm thinking about doing the annual Christmas raffle. Anyone want blue tickets? ;)
