I thought Troy was mediocre. One of those movies where you might want to see it in the theater if you have nothing better to do, but waiting until it comes to DVD wouldn't be a bad choice either.

It's natural to compare it to Gladiator, so I'll say that I liked Gladiator much more than Troy. Maximus was such a great character to build a movie around, while Troy doesn't have any "protagonist" who's nearly as interesting. The closest it has is probably Achilles (Brad Pitt), but......let's just say, he ain't no Maximus! (Though I don't know whether to fault the performance or the script for that shortcoming.)

I've heard both criticisms, ie. poor script and bad acting by Brad Pitt. I also heard that the entire Mythology component of The Illiad is left out of the story..... that's a shame for someone like me who likes that kinda stuff. I think I will wait for it to come out on video too.

I also don't care what critics say. Everyone should decide for himself if he likes a movie or not. I liked Troy.

To parker: The movie says at the end that it is "inspired" by the Iliad. So some things are a bit different than in the Iliad. E.g., if I remember correctly, after Hector's death the Greeks in the Iliad waited much much longer (twelve years?) till they started the "horse act". In the movie, it was twelve days.
I recommend you to see it in cinema, because I'd say, such a movie is not made for tv screens.

And of course: Diane Kruger is hottt!!! She's a German babe...

I should have stated in my first post that my opinion of the movie wasn't influenced at all by how faithful it was to The Iliad, since I never read it. :o

Also, since this is a porn board, Helen of Troy was hot (even without going "full frontal").

I read it in school. It a great story, as most classics are, but it tough to follow if you don't have a strong knowledge of Greek Mythology. I only have a rudimentary background in it myself, so I needed a "Myth dictionary" with me the whole time. It also written entirely in verse, which may or may not be your cup of tea.

Jackson: I was not criticizing the movie for not being faithful to Homer as much as expressing my disappoinment. As for your Diane Kruger comments, point well taken.

I saw that movie and I would have to agree with the critics who didnt like it because half of was on brad pits body and te acting was cheesy and the action scenes lacked action.

Yes, that movie did indeed rock. ALOT. Thats saying something coming from me...
