i always managed to get saddled with a teacher who wanted the students to take turns reading the book aloud.

like clockwork i always managed to get one of the pages with the n word on it

saying the word ****** out loud in a 60% black classroom aint fun

Ridiculous idea. A book is a record of the times in which it was written. We may find certain words or ideas unacceptable now but that doesn't mean we can rewrite history. It does the book a disservice as a document of the mores of its time.
