International Women's Day (IWD) is marked on March 8 every year. I'll bet most of you didn't even know it existed. The first IWD was observed on 28 February 1909 in the United States following a declaration by the Socialist Party of America.

These two links are an interesting read I think for those who want to learn more about it. Spare me the "Wheres the International Men's Day" whiney baby stuff too. We have struggled in this mans world since the beginning of time and still do. Its deserved. ;)

I knew it exists and I also knew that its March 8 every fuckin year.
And I always thought and still think.... WTF?!

That is one ridiculous day that absolutely nobody needs :2 cents:

Women want emancipation and sexual equality...And this day once a year should help or what?
Yeah...wow if that doesnt make sense...what else?

If women want sexual equality and thhink they still dont have it then they have to "fight" every single day and not this one single day.
If theyre really men who dont care about women's rights...why should they care on this one day?
Go to any Muslim country and tell them "Hey, its International Women's Day!"
What do you think will happen?

And why do so many women think theyll get flowers or presents on that day?
Are you serious? You want presents AND sexual equality? On the same day...at the same time?! ;)

But no kidding...
Either men show their love to women every single day and grant them the same rights...or...they dont.
Why is the need of that one day?
And why does anybody think this might help if there are still problems?

Makes no goddamn sense!

Now women...go celebrate yourselves, because tommorow you dont have any rights anymore! :dunno:
You want flowers? Is it your birthday? No...so go and buy some flowers if you want some! :D ;)

One thing to ponder - Women's day may be important to more than just women...Think about the correlation between women's rights and how ass-backward you think a country is. In my opinion it is almost perfect - those countries that are most f-d up genereally afford the least rights to women. Women's day is great to have in order to celebrate women, but it is more about ensuring their rights and this in turn ensures a much better society in my opinion. Those countries where the powers that be oppress women generally oppress others that are powerless as well.

Plus they are generally much less tolerant to porn.

Just my opinion/observation, but feel free to discuss.

The fact that there is a day set aside to recognize women and what they have done is a mockery of the real value of women on the planet. It is basically the same thing as when a kid draws a really shitty picture and his parents hang it on the fridge. If we really wanted to show women that we appreciate them and what they have done there wouldn't be a day to admire them; we would admire them year-round. Ours is a male-dominated world, and to have a women's day is just a way for the men of the world to wash their conscience of the fact that women still get 81 cents on the male dollar, and that the majority of large corporations don't employ females on their executive boards. And this is only in so-called first-world countries; I won't even bother looking into the third-world.

I think that the whole point of my little rant is illustrated perfectly by a previous post on this thread:
Today I will masturbate to women only!
Atta boy. Women's Day is just to celebrate men having something to think about when we flog our dolphins.

There was no reason for you to talk so nasty in here.

I never asked for gifts only the recognition that hard working women deserve. To let everyone know of the day, its not like its a paid national holiday or anything. xX-Joanne-Xx was the only one who mentioned gifts, I didn't.

Nice English and very well written though M12 congrats. Funny how you go from short posts to such a long lucid well written post.

Not nasty...just messin around a bit!

Im sorry I cant use more smilies to show you the "irony" of some of my points...

though I have to say that I really think that this day is absolutely senseless and superfluous.

and to the gift and flowers thing...
I was not referring to you or Joanne in this point.
I just know many girls who want to get something on this day.

Plus, you remember last Mother's Day?
There you have the proof that I respect women and am not against "sexual equality".
Im just "against" this day...called "International Women's Day"

I will accept what you say. I just wish you would try to see it for what it stands for though. Its more a day of reflection much like Veterans Day, not for each woman individually. Its about the history, the struggles and the advances over the last century. Not another cash cow for retailers like Valentines Day. :)

Don't forget the Arab world, which has been oppressing women for a looong time for religious reasons. As far as I'm aware, they've never attempted to rebel and change their situation.

My opinion: I think this all comes down to hormones. Men tend to be dominant due to androgen, and women tend to be submissive due to estrogen. That's not to say all men and women follow these patterns, but those who don't are in the minority. As we age and our primary hormonal levels decrease, this trend may reverse (men become more passive and women more aggressive). Here's one study which was done on this subject: Testosterone and Aggression in a Simulated Crisis Game.

This pattern usually holds in nature as well, but not always. Here are a couple exceptions that I can think of:
- There's a species of spider in which the females will sometimes mate with and then subsequently kill and eat the male.
- Hive insects are controlled by a queen and males are mere drones.

I agree with you honey and my sentence about gifts was just a joke comment. :]

Much love
xx
