Nope. Lord knows that was soul rending, but it wasn't it. Seriously, all this asshole did for the last half/part of the song was scream into the mic. That's it. AAAAAAAAGGHHHH!!!. That's it.

It was around 2007, give or take, when it came out, and it thankfully seems to have died a quick death. I wouldn't be surprised if no one remembers it, or volunteered for a partial loboomy just to forget it.

I consider Sabbath, Motorhead, Iron Maiden , Judas Priest, Metallica (although both wussed out at one point during their career) Straight up metal

Bands like Rush, KISS, Aerosmith and Deep Purple get tagged as metal but they are hard rock.

There are so many sub genres now it is difficult to keep track.

Poison, Def Leppard, White Lion are all candy coated power pop bands and bastardize the heavy metal label.

One of my favorites is Manowar's Triumph of Steel. Those Lyrics are really positive, ya know? They make me wanna go out conquer.

"Live to win."-Motorhead

Elwood70

Torn & Frayed.
Def Leppard never considered themselves metal, watch the Behind the Music with them and Joe Elliot makes no bones about it, they were trying harder to be The Rolling Stones than Iron Maiden.

...plus Joe Elliot favorably comparing them to Led Zeppelin whenever possible. Ugh.

Who is wiser than Lemmy Kilmister? I'm not much for Venom either.

Watch out! See how dangerous these characters appear? Where's Patton Oswalt at? I think that one dude used to be in Styx.

Manowar had Mark "The Animal" Mendoza in the band IIRC. Didn't he join Twisted Sister for a while? Or was that someone else?

Amon Amarth is in absolutely no way a Power Metal band. Amon Amarth is a Melodic Death Metal band. While Jaana's description of power/hero metal was not far off, I've never heard a power metal band with Norse lyrical themes. Power metal is pretty much all the same, and I can't listen to more than one song at a time or I grow bored and angry.

The worst Metal song of all time is "(insert title here)" by Metallica. Metallica is overrated garbage and it sickens me that the average person thinks of them when they think of Thrash Metal. All their songs have a 5 minute "classical-metal" guitar intro that is always boring and trite, and when the actual song kicks in, it's always the same boring, disjointed sounding generic thrash riff for the rest of the song. James Hetfield is a terrible vocalist, Lars Ulrich is an overrated drummer and a bitch, and the rest of the band is nothing special. They completely ruined their at best decent sound with the Black Album, and have been getting steadily worse ever since. They suck and I hate them.

Even worse than Metallica is 80's Metal, or Hair Metal. I hate this genre with every inch of my being, and the only reason I haven't named any single song from this wasteland of hairspray and glitter as the worst song is because I don't consider it metal. Long hair and distorted guitars don't make you a metal band - commitment to heavy and aggressive musicianship is what makes you a metal band. The members of hair metal bands didn't care about musicianship. All they cared about was cocaine, motorcycles and blowjobs. Fuck them. They were a blight on music and their demise was well deserved and welcomed.

Also, Nu-metal fucking sucks. I shouldn't have to explain myself here.

90% of what I listen to is metal, and 90% of the metal I hear is god awful noise. But that's the thing most non-metalheads don't realize: Metal is fucking massive, and lends itself beautifully to being infused with other genres, styles and attitudes. Even if you can't stand most of it, chances are you can still find plenty of different bands from across all the subs that you consider interesting, innovative and unique enough to fill most of your library. That's how it works for me at least.

Also, I think it was xfire who mentioned Sam Dunn. That guy gets it 100%. I fully recommend checking out his documentaries if you're interested in a scholarly, but easygoing approach to learning about metal and it's roots.

Agreed. Amon Amarth is a Melodic Death Metal band.

This is more Power Metal to me. Jorn's voice is good but always something missing. Does nifty impressions of Dio and Coverdale.

Disclaimer on that last post:

I fully understand that people love and enjoy the bands and genres I just shat all over. I don't personally think less of those people for their preferences, and completely accept that plenty of people would find the particular bands and genres that I love to be awful. I don't take it personally, and neither should anyone else.

Also, you aren't truly into Metal unless you are also willing to make fun of Metal although some of Fred Durst's crapola is so intolerable I can't find a place in my soul for levity.
