Schools closed. For two days. Emergency travel only extended.
But...a neighbour a couple houses down is out of town, and I'm keeping their driveway clear while they're gone. They have several snowmobiles, and just told me to make use of them. We're going out riding in the morning. Every street is open to snowmobiles!

-18 here this morning, but we only had a 2 hour delay. Supposed to be even colder tomorrow with more snow. So probably another delay as well. This is as cold I remember it being here since the ice storm of '98. My parents tell me that this is nothing compared to the blizzard to of '78. I wasn't alive then so I don't know. But it's damn fucking cold here.
A guy literally froze to death near a river downtown. Police found his body frozen to the ground. Apparently, he had gone missing earlier in the week. This is not the kind of weather to be fucked with.

Currently -19, real feel of -28 (That's Celcius, -3 Fahrenheit, real feel -20). Boiling water thrown in the air disappears in a puff of steam. The kids think that's pretty amazing.
Showed the kids this afternoon how to make a snow shelter wall around you if you have to be outside. Once we got it a few feet high and were out of the wind, it felt okay in there. Five of us crammed together, sun shining (periodically), it wasn't what you'd call balmy, but it was not as bad as you would think.

yeah but even still it's rare for it to stay above freezing for very long if at all this time of year..average temp near the coast up here is still around 20° for this time of year with a good cold spell a month or two before hand.
Currently -11F real feel -28. Wonder if Ace had school? It's about the same there. Most businesses are shut down here, and our street hasn't been plowed in two and a half days. I'm guessing schools will be shut here again tomorrow for a fourth straight day.
On the other hand, I made a fairly elaborate breakfast pizza today that turned out pretty awesome. I am going to run out of ingredients if I'm not allowed to go to the store pretty soon, though.

I'm a Michigan girl : ) I seriously am so sick of this shitty weather! Everyone around here is grumpy, short fused and stir crazy. Everything takes so much longer to do in this cold, roads are sheer ice in some places. I'm so happy that I work from home so I haven't been out much except to the gym, grocery store and local beer/pizza joint.

Oh, come on. The snow days, the cold, the snow...it's all kind of fun, right?
School cancelled again tomorrow. At this rate, they'll be in school until July. Travel ban will be lifted, though, so we'll be leaving the house for the first time since Thursday. Time to go skating! We're also loading up the snow blower and shovels, and we're going to go and dig out a few friends who are sick and/or elderly who aren't able to do it themselves. You don't get chances to help friends out as a family like that often.

No school today, but that was only because of the bitter cold. To be honest, I'm surprised they canceled. City roads are fine here for the most part.
I went in to school anyway and graded for a few hours. I can't just sit around and not do anything on a Tuesday. It's nice having extra days off now, but if we don't get any more waivers from the state we're still going to be in school after Memorial Day. And I don't want that.

Word is the state is saying no to waivers, and we're going to be in school well into June at this rate.

Been 0 real temp, below with wind chill. Tractor lost coolant the other night, and set off the sensor yesterday morning. Late start means everything falls out of place....I hope the fucking thing didn't do it last night. trying to get in and out of docks in this weather is a major pain in the ass. Every joint in my body aches from arthritis, and shit just never goes right.
Yeah, I've been wondering about folks with arthritis. This weather must suck dongs for you. Hope you're able to keep warm!
I actually ventured out of the house today. I'll tell you what, the grocery store had been picked over! I don't think I've ever seen shelves so bare in my life. I guess a multi day travel ban cleans out the fridge! The roads here are well cleared, but sheer ice in most spots. As long as you go slowly and don't act like an idiot, travel is no problem. Still mighty cold, though!

8" of that wet snowball making stuff yesterday. Tonight 2-4 with ice on top. Great for the sleds except for the ice that gets chopped up and cuts your face when you crash.

We're supposed to get hit again overnight, then a lull, and again in a day or 2...I think they said a total of 6-10 inches. I'm hoping for both events.

Another snow day because of "extreme" cold. It's -20 C here. This is getting ridiculous. I love the weather, but the poor kids and teachers will be in school until July at this rate.
Too cold to go sledding or snowshoeing, no snow needs shoveling, so my kids are all in the kitchen preparing a huge spread for a crowd of people coming over tonight to watch the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics. They insisted on doing it. Should be a riot.
