Republicans don't have the consent of the governed, they are a minority government that has gained power by underhanded and subversive tactics and their policies are hugely unpopular, even among their base. They're now trying to establish that they don't need consent of the governed, because they know what's good for the unwashed masses. That's why they've been obsessed with stacking the courts, why mcconnell dragged his feet and stonewalled hundreds of Obama appointees but is happy to ram through completely unqualified trump picks.
If they can't govern by legislation, and it's looking like in a few months they won't be able to, they'll try to govern through the judiciary.

Biden and Harris need to come up with a reasonable answer to the question "are you going to pack the court." I don't think it has to be a yes or a no, because after a few wildly unpopular decisions like removing reproductive rights and Obamacare they'll be able to make the case that the court is dysfunctional in that it does not represent the will of the people, and the options will be to fix it, or sit around and wait for these zealots to die of old age.

Very good Vox article.

Lee's spokesperson:
"At a time when Democrats want to pack the Court, eliminate the Electoral College, and turn the Senate into the House, it is very good that Americans are re-reading The Federalist Papers to rediscover why the founders put these specific republican checks on democratic passion into the Constitution,” he told me in an email.

I am fairly confident most of Trump's supporters have neither read the Federalist nor could they pick John Jay as the third author.

So not much on Trumps having corona virus in the news anymore. Other than saying they used an "Experimental Drug" on him. Like they would use an experimental drug on HIM instead of the MILLIONS of other people who have Corona. But I believe it all because I'm American and I believe anything the GOV/Media tells me.
Also has anyone seen those George Floyd cops actually in in prison? Any news on the trial? Nothing huh? How unusual.
Yes I am American. I believe everything they tell me on the TV.
For 2 decades I was terrified of Terrorists. For the past 8 years I was terrified of both Terrorists and being killed in a Mass KIlling by Muslim or a Crazy White Guy with an AR-15.
But now since Corona arrived there are no more Terrorists or Mass Killings, so now I am just terrified of getting within 6 feet of another human being.

That you claim to be an American is the funniest part of your show.

I really think it is a misnomer to say trump picks. I highly doubt he has had anything to do with picking the vast majority of new Federal Judges. The Federalist Society is who I will bet has made the choices. Donald most likely doesn't even know their names except for the Supreme Court.

Definitey, they give him lists of approved names. I've seen the heritage foundation mentioned too.

Remember when trump said hurricane Dorian would hit Alabama and it didn't so he got a weather bureau map and extended the white hurricane path with a black sharpie and that was a thing that is now a part of US presidential history?

Hahaha, he's so stupid!

When it comes to US americans call other U americans un-american, you are back in McCarthy times.

Your country can never heal when you can't work with fellow citizens that just do not share your views

Now he's planning a rally at the white house. Remember a couple of months ago when the white house couldn't be used for political campaigns?

Another institution crumbled, another one conceded by the United States. I still think the US is in the fight though, there are promising signs that they're not just going to roll over for republicans. If they can just keep the electoral system on life support for another 25 days while republicans keep trying to pull the plug...

Thank you for pointing out the vagueness of my comment.

To be clear: I did not call him un-American. I was doubting his claim to be from, or in, America.

I was not answering specifically your comment, the trend in general is worrying me

Everyone wants to patriot as hard as they can. Trouble is, some believe that being a patriot means upholding the ideals of liberty and justice for all, like the founders wrote about, while others think it means waving a flag while stomping on the rights and freedoms of other Americans. One of these groups is very easy to corrupt, because all you have to do is co-opt a symbol, the other is much harder, because they are loyal to principles and their fellow countrymen, not slogans and icons.

From what I am starting to read it appears that a forest of folk trying to appear be former Trumpistas are almost blocking out the Sun while standing holding their fingers in the air to see which way the wind is blowing.

I've been around this forum for many many moons. People who also have been around a long time know I'm from the USA and I lived in another country at one point for some years. I have no idea what I've said to indicate I am not from the US.
So how are Trump and all the other politicians who suddenly after 8 months of none of them catching it then suddenly they all have it on the same day doing? Any of them dying? No? Up and about making speeches 2 days later? Oh goody. I can wait to scarf up what they throw in my trough next. Mmmm Yummy.

If you were Afghani and you had thousands of US soldiers walking around your country pointing guns at citizens and ordering them around while guarding the opium fields you 'd want them gone too. Why did the US military occupy Afghnistan in the first place? Looking for a tall bearded multimillionaire muslim with close ties to the Bush family was it? Didn't Obama kill him 8 years ago and bury him at sea without ever showing the world his corpse? So why are they still there if it isnt the opium ? The same opium the flooded the USA right after the US occupation? Nevermind. You saw the word Taliban and you reacted just like you were trained to. I understand.
