The Technology Thread

Thought I'd make a thread where we can discuss all topics related to technology. Whether you want to talk about a new purchase you've made, need help with your device or would like a recommendation....let's just talk tech!

I want to do what Michael Keaton did in Multiplicity and get a clone to do my work while I golf and go to basketball games. They need to get on that technology asap.

nevermind that, what about sex chat on kik? it's what the young folks are into these days.

just playin. my galaxy S4 is long in the tooth and I'll be upgrading soon. Any recommendations? I'm thinking about going apple this time.

Well you can't go wrong with an iPhone. If $ is not a barrier I'd go with the 6s. If you want to stay with Android check out the 6s. Another good Android phone is the Nexus 6P

Don't buy Iphone or things that can be easily hacked and hackable

Worse even are the apps. Have you seen the permissions for some of these things? Identity?! Access to your contacts and photos? Precise locations? Yeah, I'll opt out, thanks.

I don't think that the newer, or even the older iPhones are all that easy to hack - unless you jailbreak them. As for things like malware, I've seen estimates ranging from 60% to 99% of all malware being written for the various Android OS versions. Android is like Windows for PCs: it has HUGE market share, so that's what cyber criminals and hackers target. In one study from 2013, the malware estimate for iPhone, Windows Phone and BlackBerry combined was <1%. The key seems to be updating your Android OS to the latest version (if that's possible with your phone and carrier) and staying away from app downloads originating in Asian or Eastern European countries. IMO, one of the most intrusive apps for any mobile device is the FaceBook app. I'm sure there are some that are even more intrusive data sniffers, but FaceBook has to be the most downloaded piece of "spyware" in existence.

Speaking of spyware, has anyone checked out some of the reviews on Windows 10?

Crap, I always just "yeah yeah whatever" click through all those.

Well if they've actually accessed my photos I hope they enjoyed it.

Hologram porn???

Man, that would just be too hot for me. But as so often, porn leads the way!

The 5s, 6 and 6s more difficult to hack. These phones have Touch ID and Secure Enclave. It's a separate piece of hardware that acts as an extra security lock that's paired to a passcode, and it will slow down attempts to guess PIN codes. The phone that the San Bernadino terrorists had was an iPhone 5c and it's technically possible for Apple to make a special version of iOS that would help the FBI unlock the phone without erasing the data. The 5c is not as secure as the 6 or 6s because it does not have Touch ID or Secure Enclave

So it was a 5c. Thanks. I was wondering about that.
