Even on a track that's not known for passing, when a car that's over a second a lap faster can't pass the car in front (Hamilton vs. Verstappen), that is a problem. Too bad the regs didn't focus more on underbody aero improvements. But I will agree that the Ferrari resurgence is good for the sport (even though it didn't do much for us Hammy fans! ).


Oh, and the sooner they can get rid of those ugly as sin shark fins the better. Probably have to wait til next year though. I **** them on LMP and DPi cars and I **** them even more on formula cars.

And then, there are these races that boggle our minds, why do they even get started? How on earth do these drivers manage to drive through a pile of spinning and crashing cars, and then get knocked off later

That moment Schumacher got knocked off that front tire, had to come in on three legs, and stormed over to McLaren, that was inspiring to see

Now THAT was a car race! The track in China showed that these cars can follow and pass. Passing on the inside. Passing around the outside. That was sweet to see.

Now if they'd just get rid of those stupid shark fins and get engines that don't sound like vacuum cleaners, all would be right with the world. Maybe the next generation of cars and engines will fix it all (more dependence on ground effects aero vs. wings too).

Also, great to see that this season looks like it really is going to be a dog fight between Ferrari and Mercedes, Seb and Lewis, right to the end. And as long as both Kimi and Bottas keep punching below their weight, that should keep the constructors battle even sum, or decided more by the Seb vs. Lewis battle. And if Kimi doesn't pick it up (and Ferrari loses the WCC to Merc), would we agree that Kimi is probably gone after this season? My guess is, Ferrari will go after Carlos Sainz, Jr. for next year. I can't remember what his contract term is though.

I agree with you guys. Though I really have no opinion on the fins, to me, they don't matter. I am just massively grateful that the dynamics have been successfully boosted, Ferrari is back with a vengeance, Red Bull keeps puishing the two bigger players, and Verstappen gets better and better.

I am curious when Bottas will finally get the hang of it and join Hamilton on top of the field, but it's fun to see how he does.

Anyone else see Bottas' spin behind the safety car? I just caught it in the back of shot, but the commentators didn't spot it and it was never replayed during the race for some reason (I don't think). Max very nearly did the same but managed to catch it Brazil 2016 style.

What stood out for me is how happy the drivers were on the podium. All three of them. It's because they had a RACE. Lewis was happy not only because he won but he had to work for it more than in previous years and is excited by the challenge from Ferrari. Seb was happy because he got to pull off some overtaking moves, and Max for the very same reason.

Max also took great exception to Lewis calling him "this guy" on the podium. Looks a good season ahead.

In MASSIVE F1 news, McLaren becomes the first Formula One team in I don't know how many years (decades) to enter the Indy 500. Fernando Alonso is going to skip F1's crown jewel to race at the Indy 500. This is big for F1 and it's HUGE for the IRL/Indy Car.

Fernando Alonso to miss Monaco GP to race at Indy 500

WOKING, England — Two-time Formula One champion Fernando Alonso will race for McLaren at the Indianapolis 500 on May 28 in a surprise switch that will see the Spanish driver miss the Monaco Grand Prix on the same day.

It will be Alonso's first drive in the biggest car race in the United States as he steps up his bid to win what he regards as the "Triple Crown" of motor sport: the Monaco GP, the Indianapolis 500 and the Le Mans 24 Hours race.

"It's a tough challenge," said Alonso, who has twice won in Monaco, "but I'm up for it."

McLaren made the announcement on Wednesday, saying the Monaco GP will be the only Formula One race that Alonso will miss. The British-based team hasn't announced who will replace Alonso for the most glitzy race on the F1 calendar.

McLaren will be racing in the Indianapolis 500 for the first time in 38 years. Its entry will be a Dallara DW12 chassis, run by the Andretti Autosport team headed by Michael Andretti — a former IndyCar champion who raced in Formula One for McLaren in 1993.

Alonso will fly to Indianapolis immediately after the Spanish Grand Prix on May 14 to get in two weeks of IndyCar practice.

That is quite a beauty. Of course, the first thing I notice, and definitely support, is the both protective and much more aerodynamic glass roof for the driver. I think it is just a matter of tiome for thios to come.

And the rear looks better and would make camera angles from behind much more atractive, less wingin the way of sight.

Looks nice BUT - F1 is Open Cockpit. I fear that this would be the start of the slippery slope. If we have cockpits, why not enclose the wheels, wider body for better downforce, etc,etc.
Would we end up with LMP's instead of F1 open cockpit, open wheel racers?

I LOVED THE CHINESE GP! I thought it was exhilarating, ya'll know how much I love Max and I about had a heart ****** with him and Danny Ric fighting it out at the end. I have so much hope that we will see some great racing, and hoping for a nail biter of a championship down to the last second. It was also a nice breath of fresh air to see HAPPY FACES on the podium. Last year they all looked miserable. Racing is supposed to be fun, damnit!

To speak on what Rey C. said earlier, I, for one, would LOVE to see someone like Carlos Sainz at Ferrari next year. I think he gets better and better, you can see his improvement every season and I believe he would do more in a Ferrari than current day Raikkonen.

I like the new car designs, I don't mind the shark fins personally. They are ugly but I think they serve a purpose, form follows function right? Just look at endurance prototypes. You guys think they will be here to stay, except in case of a rule change? I would think so since they offer high speed stability and with the cars being so much faster this year... I love the wider tires, they look more aggressive and offer higher cornering speeds and shorter breaking distances, which as you all should know- is my boy's specialty A driver that can use tires to their full potential will be the stars of the race. I think Ham, Vet and Ver are the 3 that will show this- they all seem to have superior ability with tire management compared to everyone else on the grid. Still wish we had the sound of the glory days as far as the engines go. I didn't read back so this may have been covered already, but what do you guys think of the Red Bull nose as far as aerodynamics are concerned?
