"Popular music"..... then for me, it has to be:

Song of the Siren by This Mortal Coil .

"Lovesong" by the Cure, for all it's simplicity, is a very beautiful song.

The Beatles have lots of contenders- "Here Comes the Sun," "Yesterday," and "In My Life" come to mind.

Ben Folds' "The Luckiest"

Al Green's "Let's Stay Together"- can't go wrong with this one.

Dave Matthews Band "Bartender"- maybe too depressing to really call beautiful, but "Yesterday" is a sad song too, so I'll keep it.

The Rolling Stones- Wild Horses

Those are a few of my nominees

Where the Streets Have no Name - U2
Long December - Counting Crows
Wa ansake filasteen - Fairuz
Mi Tierra - Gloria Stefan

Confusing - I'll bet!!!

bright eyes - garfunkel (i think)
lady in red - chris deburgh
purple rain - prince
goodbye horses - Q lazzarus
brendas got a baby - 2pac
fall again - michael jackson
candle in the wind - elton john

I know you'll be a sun in somebody else's sky, but why
Why, why can't it be, why can't it be mine"

so sad but so beautiful....

I think I have already posted it in another thread before:

Flow my teares

Flow my teares fall from your springs,
Exilde for euer: Let mee morne
Where nights black bird hir sad infamy sings,
There let mee liue forlorne.
Downe vaine lights shine you no more,
No nights are dark enough for those
That in dispaire their last fortuns deplore,
Light doth but shame disclose.

Never may my woes be relieued,
Since pittie is fled,
And teares, and sighes, and grones my wearie dayes,
Of all ioyes haue deprived.
Fro the highest spire of contentment,
My fortune is throwne,
And feare, and griefe, and paine for my deserts,
Are my hopes since hope is gone.

Harke you shadows that in darcknesse dwell,
Learne to contemne light,
Happie, happie they that in hell
Feele not the worlds despite.

Cristo Redentor - Donald Byrd

Ave Maria - Choir Of Men And Boys Of St. Thomas Episcopal Church

Ave Maria - Mario Lanza

Amazing Grace - Mario Lanza

I also have to agree on this one. Dolly Parton – I will always love you (the original)… ouch Heart-breaker is right. She did it first and she did it best.

There are many many more. Way to many to list. :)
