Terrible reporting. First off, she's a Missouri State Senator, not a US senator, as the misleading header shows. But it feels like I've seen this story a couple years back during the Ferguson festivities and another state politician got arrested for the same reason. Guns and booze don't mix.

It popped up on my facebook feed. Like I'm going to ingore it. Several other outlets reported it, too. But I din't look for 'em because American Dad is showing and I don't go to the trouble when my shit is ON.
LMAO how many special forces guys are there to begin with anyway, in the totality of the country? A couple thousand? Against a nation of 300+ millions - not to mention ex-special forces, tens of millions of ex-military, period, Americans that are citizens now?
What is it about lefties that love their military and law enforcement so much they would give them totalitarian power, yet they hate them so much on an every day basis?
Such conflicting personalities lefties have, sort of like sucking Muslim asshole and in the same gulp sucking gay asshole (the former whom would see the latter marched off rooftops and stoned and beheaded for their lifestyles) - such contradictory people leftists are. In just a few posts in this thread I crushed the horseshit you guys have been throwing around here. ARs are the absolute most important concern when it comes to gun violence in Amreica? Rubbish. Since we have a great military and the largest arsenal the 2A is rendered meaningless and our country/goverment is going to gas/bomb/gun down its own family members, neighbors and colleagues. I've been involved, spent money, sat in meetings, written letters and walked the halls of state capitols in 3 states, and sat in more meetings. Might there be the passing chance that instead of finding out what the facts are, you just decided to make a knee-jerk, absolutely wrong, monumentally misguided value judgement that you now get one more person to blame everything on and self-enable your own need to just be pissed at something?

No, you are pretty far off on that assertion. You just don't know it. The 2A wasn't a liberal issue until conservatives decided to make it so. That's a fact, I was there, it's one of the reasons I'm not "there" anymore. I've spent the last 30 years preaching the 2nd Amendment was a stand alone issue and liberal/conservative had absolutely nothing to do with it. Just because I'm ignored doesn't mean I'm wrong. And I'm not wrong. Once it became Right vs. Left, the NRA and the pro-2nd movement became a gigantic clusterfuck populated by people like you who don't even know what to be angry about or who at. You just get to be angry. But you seem to like it.
You're telling me that liberals aren't the largest pushers of gun control measures now and haven't in recent times at least been the biggest pushers of gun control - like those bunch of babies sitting on the Congress floor? lol

And what I'm telling you is what I've told you. The 2A is a stand alone issue with stand alone voters. Many of them conservative, some of them with otherwise Liberal leanings. But when conservatives like you insist on making ALL Liberals the enemy, guess what? They become the enemy you insisted on. Plenty of Libs are willing to bend any way at all when 2A comes up, but fuck it, if they're going to keep being hated, they might as well be what they're hated for. And instead of gaining traction and making 2A bullet-proof, nope it's more fun to scream at people. If the NRA had any brains at all, they'd find 10, 20, 50,000 bonafide Liberal gun lovers (they're out there Sparky, oh yes indeed they are out there), and shove them right down Arianna Huffinton's throat. A mother fatally shot her two daughters on a public street near Houston, Texas, on Friday afternoon, before she was shot dead by police.
At around 5 p.m., officers started receiving 911 calls about shots fired in the city of Fulshear, just west of Houston, the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Facebook.
When they arrived on the scene, they found Madison Sheats, 17, and her 22-year-old sister, Taylor, had been shot.
Madison died on the street, while Taylor was flown to a hospital, where she also died.
The girls’ mother, Christy Sheats, 42, was also in the street and, after refusing to drop her weapon, was shot and killed by a Fulshear officer, the sheriff’s office said.
“Our officer was forced to take action,” the Fulshear Police Department wrote on Facebook, without identifying the officer involved. “He was not injured and no deputies were injured.”
“This was a tragic and unfortunate occurrence and we are deeply saddened by the results,” police added.
On Monday, the sheriff’s office released new details about how the how the shooting unfolded.
Christy Sheats had called a family meeting in their home with her daughters and husband, Jason.
“During that meeting, Christy Sheats held up a gun and shot both girls,” the sheriff’s office said.
Jason Sheats and the daughters managed to flee the home, but Madison collapsed outside and died.
Jason was able to run to the end of the cul-de-sac, while Christy Sheats pursued Taylor, shooting her again.
“According to a witness, Christy Sheats went back inside the home to reload the gun,” the sheriff’s office said. “Christy Sheats returned and shot Taylor once more.”
When she did not obey commands to drop her handgun, Christy Sheats was shot once by the officer and died, officials said.
Investigators said the weapon was a five-shot, .38-caliber handgun.
Caitilin Espinosa, a spokeswoman for the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office, told People Magazine on Sunday that Christy Sheats allegedly had a history of mental illness.
The sheriff’s office had been called to the family’s home before “for previous altercations” regarding a “mental crisis,” Espinosa told the magazine.
The sheriff’s office would not elaborate on those statements Monday, but did say authorities had been called to the house 14 times since January 2012.
“Some were alarm issues, but due to legal constraints issued by the county attorney, the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office cannot describe the other calls for service, or release the 911 calls at this time,” the sheriff’s office said.
On her Facebook profile, Christy Sheats routinely praised her daughters.
“Happy Daughter’s Day to my two amazing, sweet, kind, beautiful, intelligent girls,” she wrote in September last year. “I love and treasure you both more than you could ever possibly know.”
She also posted messages in support of the Second Amendment.
“It would be horribly tragic if my ability to protect myself or my family were to be taken away,” she wrote in March, “but that’s exactly what Democrats are determined to do by banning semi-automatic handguns.”
This is a mom who loved her 2 daughters more than anything in the world. And now all 3 of them are dead, just because the mom happened to have mental issues and still had guns.
She was very vocal about how she thought that she needed her guns to protect her and her family and now because she had guns, her and her family are resting, 6 feet under ground.
Yeah, I know the usual arguments from gun-right advocates :
- "Obama is coming for your guns. And the he's going to round us up and brought us into hobbit homes".
- "If the father or the daughters have had a gun, they couldhave killed her before he would have killed them all" (by the way, a Father killing his wife to protect his daughters or her daughters killing her mom to protect her sister, I'm not sure it qualifies as a happy ending").
- "Guns don't kill people, people kill people". (Well, if none of them would have had guns, they would have just yell at each other, may threw some punches but that would have been it. Maybe the mom would have taken a knife but I highly doubt the two daughters and the father wouldn't have successfully incapacitate her).
The bare minimum is to make sure that people with mental issues have access to guns or have guns in their house. Otherwise, it end with people shooting their families, their friends, their neighbors, etc.
