1) Eric Clapton
2) Jimmy Page
3) Stevie Ray Vaughn
4) Jimmy Hendrix
5) Jeff Beck
Hendrix, Page, Clapton, Townshend, Howe, Vaughan, Allman, Fripp. All are innovators, and have influenced the masses. But there are many...MANY more that are great...but these are who I think helped shape a lot of young musicians.

1. The Edge
Do I think the Edge is the most technically competant guitarist ever? no. I think that his style has been imitated so often (moreso in the 80s), and that he constantly inovates and reinvents his style (93 - Dance, 00- Anthemic, 04- Garage rock) to fit all trends. He may not be the greatest mover aroung a fretboard, but he is most assuredly worthy of a place on the list.
