No Gilmour? No Tom Morello? Jonny Greenwood? Joey Santiago? Robert Johnson? Chuck Berry?

My point being this is all about opinion, there is no greatest guitarist. This has had the arse kicked out of it. Oh and if anyone mentions Kurt Cobain, they will be laughed at. He was awful.

true. agree about Kurt, we sucked worse than Vai, at least Vai can actually play.

Way to go LadyLove & Dr Death & Fox!!! I got to vote for Stevie Ray Vaughn!! And list could go on, Mark Knopfler, Robert Cray, Billy Gibbons, but man, don't take SRV away!! I'll go on strike!! Shame on you!! :moon:

But it is a neat thread!!!!! Look how many there are that are GOOD!!! And some are not toooooo good!

Keith Richards?????????????????????????????????????????????
I hope NO ONE votes for this guy.....

There are a lot of people missing from the list, and richards has NO place in there.
Personally I vote for Frank Zappa. One of the very few guitarists who managed to combine virtuosity with great music, and not just use "speed" to show off.
R.I.P. Frank

Legzman

what the fuck you lookin at?
what about Darrell Abbott aka Dimebag Darrell of Pantera fame? Later started up the band Damageplan. Great guitarist senslessly shot dead onstage! R.I.P. Dimebag! 1966 - 2004

dimes was my hero. as much as i would like him to be on this poll, i want him to be all by himself. number one and number done. i know he is rocking the afterlife, even as i type this.

try listening to him play. i mean really listen.
i have tried mate, but i find it really difficult. his stuff is boring. his first album is possibly the worst record i've ever heard - he's trying to be Frank Zappa on there and misses by a mile. second wasn't much better, and after that he just kept on doing the same boring, overproduced crap he's now famous for. it's boring, sterile and only encourages stupid kids to shred and play as fast and flashy as they can, when they should be learning the blues.

Vai's stuff with Zappa was good, his playing was better, because Frank was conducting him and writting the stuff. without Frank, Vai is nothing.

:2 cents:

im not talking about his songwriting abilities. i know his songs arent that great, but as a guitarist i think he is amazing. not as good as satriani albeit, but still a good axemen.

I would have to say it's between Hendrix and Van Halen, and it's so hard to make an argument against Hendrix. My vote goes to Jimi.
