I just finished watching it and I think it is really promising. I hope they develop the different characters so that we care about them over the series. And they better not cancel it 5 episodes in before we even know what The Event is (like Happy Town).

I don't think so, unless I missed the point of the previews. They show some big **** going down and then say 'but this is not The Event', next crazy scene, 'this is not The Event either'.
So it looks like interconnected smaller events leading up to THE EVENT. haha! I'm not sure though, I haven't been following all the fan blogs like I should be.
i thought it was good for the first episode. im gonna say that its possible we have another LOST on our hands. of course it cant compare entirely, but i think the parallels are there

I watched it. I have no idea what the event is. Where the hell did the airplane go? I see aliens in the future episodes. (I think)
Anyone notice in the ads for the show that one critic said something like "may take the place of Lost" and then the scene shown immediately after that is one of two: the first being a plane looking like it's crashing (like flight 815) and another version where a guy is jumping from a cliff into the ocean, with jungle behind him (scenery not unlike Lost). I just thought this was funny. I'm looking for it on youtube but can't find anything

I had hopes for Happy Town, too. Oh well.
I watched it. It seemed to be pretty good - early to tell, and it didn't quite have the dynamic start that Lost did (that really was a great intro to a show...annoying engine and all).
Perhaps it was my imagination, but it already seems we might be dealing with a couple of universes. I already deleted it off my DVR, but I seem to remember that, just before the plane crashed, the area the President was not being effected by the singularity (ie, the wind), the first time it was shown. I could be wrong, though.
It's on NBC, so I won't watch it.
