Why save the world, when you can rule it?
I was enjoying one of lifes little pleasures today (reading private eye) when I happened upon these two number crunching statements:
£3million Cost of pope per day to UK taxpayers during september visit.
£22,000 Cost of queen per day to UK taxpayers.
And:
12 days spent in hospital by Cheryl cole after contracting Malaria in Tanzani, which received blanket media coverage.
14-18 million Tanzanians who contract malaria each year, who didn't receive coverage
And it made me wonder; who are these ********* people and why do we worship them? The majority are useless!
I was gonna post this in the ********* news section, but then realised it seemed to be more of a way of keeping up with ya fave ***** females latest pics rather than devoutly worshipping "slebs".
I mean fair enough if she's gorgeous (Monica Belluci), Fair enough if she's good at her job (Sara Jay), fair enough if he's good at his job (Pierce Brosnan), fair enough if he is genuinely important (can't think of any genuinely important person who gets sleb media coverage).
But the fact is most of this sleb-centric-**** we get blasted at us through the media is useless.
Do I care how our footballers are doing? NO. They're a load of useless over-paid, under-performing ego-centric shits.
Do I care how Cheryl cole is doing? No. Yes she's pretty, but she's not important to me and I don't understand why a straight woman would follow her with such zeal as straight women often do.
Do I care about Jedward? (US readers of this post should think about Britney "shitney" spears instead of Jedward) No.
Why would I? Who does? Do you know anyone who likes their music? Me neither - what a coincidence.
Yet we worship these celebs and devote so much time and attention to them rather than more important matters; You don't see the masses (of which I am one) treating politicians and their decisions with such attention now, do you?
Greece, India, Italy and many more have suffered massive corruption and social injustice... but the populace by and large are more concerned with celebs, despite the fact that silly corrupt politicians and military expenditure cost them THEIR money.
Did the american public object when the B58 Hustler was shown to cost more than it's own weight in gold? Not really. Same with the F22; Costs more than it's own weight in gold and (again) not worth it. No-body objects. Stryker is ****** useless, yet people are more interested in celebs than protecting their nations soldiers.
Same in Britain: SA80s were famously unreliable for years before they were given to the Germans to be fixed. But no, we were more concerned with celebs.
Look again at the queen: 22,000 a day in a country with approximately 20% unemployment, yet nobody demands her head. Strange eh?
My theory is that we evolved to slavishly follow the tribe leader and his chosen girl(s) for th egood of the pack and that despite all the intelligence and rationality we like to attribute ourselves, we're still doing that today. Call me arrogant or naive, but surely homo-sapiens should be smarter than that? What do you think?
