Mario 3 was sensational for a NES game, but World blew it out the water, and I didn't even think about playing Brothers 3 until AllStars came out and there was the luxury of having all three (and "Lost Levels") on the same cart. In fact, for fun factor, learning curve and the amount of time you could just sit there playing with by yourself, Super Mario World is my shout for best game ever, not just old game.
Games today have better graphics and sound and physically much bigger worlds, but no charm. They simply aren't as fun. Plus, the modern obsession with cut scenes and trying to turn the game into an interactive movie really grates on me. I just want to pick up and play, not have an elaborate plot drilled into me.
