The Ashes

"What's that Skippy, the aussies have lost the ashes to those blasted pommies......"

"........Well you can bloody well hop off back to Australia with your tail between your legs before we set the bulldogs on ya"

Well done England and well done Australia, I really enjoyed that last test.

So did England win this Marathon competition?

Is there any other sport in the world that can beat this for the length of time it is on , a game between two teams that lasts for a month or more? Just wondering

Exactly how long did this go on for this year?

Im not being funny here , just interested

5 seperate matches, each of a maximum 5 days in length (can finish quicker depending how game goes), played over a 7 week period. England won 2 games to 1 with 2 draws.

15 years of australia as world no1 cricket nation have come to a depressing end. No longer the number 1 ranked nation, lost to an average england team (rank 5 in world, potential to climb) and tumbled to 4th ourselves. Lost 3 of last 4 series (India, South africa, england).

Why aren't oz selectors copping more flak? these are the same 3 muppets who went without a spinner for the first 3 tests in india! When they finally picked one he took 12 on debut and was promptly dropped. Dickheads. :crash:

The celebrations were much more low key compared to 2005. They said on the radio it's because last time England hadn't won the Ashes for a long time and also this time they finished earlier and the players have games to play this week.

Yes, they won by 2 wins to 1 - the other 2 were draws.

A series that goes on for many months does not occur any longer in test cricket. This series was condensed into a few weeks.

It started on the 8th July and ended on 24th August.

Yeah, not like those England teams of the '70s and '80s with proper Englishmen like Lamby and The Judge

Tony greig, allan lamb, robin smith, andrew strauss, jonathon trott, kevin pieterson, matt prior, throw in graeme hick (zimbabwe) too.

Difficult to know what constitutes true nationality. For example Cliff Richard was born in India but is surely considered to be English because that's what his parents were. Many people in the colonies regarded themselves as british with an overseas address. There is so much to-ing and fro-ing of families going on.

Many people in the colonies regarded themselves as British with an overseas address.

True.

At the height of the British Empire many tens of thousands of British people were born in the Colonies, but they were always treated as British. A person can not dictate where they are born.
